{"id":3371,"date":"2008-06-10T16:42:00","date_gmt":"2008-06-10T22:42:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/06\/another-top-employee-leaving-state-election-bureau\/"},"modified":"2008-06-10T16:42:00","modified_gmt":"2008-06-10T22:42:00","slug":"another-top-employee-leaving-state-election-bureau","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/06\/another-top-employee-leaving-state-election-bureau\/","title":{"rendered":"Another top employee leaving state Election Bureau"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Election Bureau in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sos.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Secretary of State\u2019s Office<\/a> is in for another big personnel change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Daniel Miera, the elections administrator in that office, is leaving later this month, just days after the state canvass of last week\u2019s primary election, to return to <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Taos<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> and become the town\u2019s manager, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.taosnews.com\/articles\/2008\/06\/10\/news\/doc484eed522df4d415143377.txt\" target=\"_blank\">Taos News<\/a> is reporting. He was hired away from <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Taos<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>, where he was assistant town manager, earlier this year for the state job.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The culprit is a pay raise. Miera will earn $90,000 annually in his new job, the news service reported. He was making $64,500 in the elections job.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Secretary of State Mary Herrera was criticized earlier this year for hiring Miera, who had no elections experience at the time. The criticism was covered as part of a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.santafenewmexican.com\/Local%20News\/Secretary-of-State-Election-Bureau-changes---prompt-concerns\" target=\"_blank\">Santa Fe New Mexican article<\/a> in March detailing personnel changes in the office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">At the time, the director of the Election Bureau, Daniel Ivey-Soto, had just left his job to seek a vacant judgeship in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>. That left the rookie Miera as next in line at the Bureau. Herrera, in defending herself from criticism, argued at the time that she has six years of experience in running elections from her time as Bernalillo County Clerk. She also said Miera learns quickly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The June primary ran fairly smoothly, but now Miera is on to another job.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">And the November election, one of the biggest in the state\u2019s history, is approaching.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Election Bureau in the Secretary of State\u2019s Office is in for another big personnel change.
