She lost because the superdelegates &#8212; the Democratic establishment &#8212; went against her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cShe became a caricature: too smart, too strong, too assertive, too rational, too competent,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> wrote. \u201cThink how the young Harry Potter and his male friends initially reacted to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hermione_Granger\" target=\"_blank\">Hermione Granger<\/a> and you get the idea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SE1CRu85XzI\/AAAAAAAAGAQ\/Kkfb4jMrwRI\/s1600-h\/Clinton,+Hillary.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SE1CRu85XzI\/AAAAAAAAGAQ\/Kkfb4jMrwRI\/s200\/Clinton,+Hillary.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5209893216366190386\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> put a more positive spin on her loss in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hillaryclinton.com\/news\/speech\/view\/?id=7903\" target=\"_blank\">the speech she gave this weekend<\/a> conceding the race and announcing her support for Obama. She focused on the state contests she won and her success in mounting the most credible presidential campaign by a woman in American history.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cYou can be so proud that, from now on, it will be unremarkable for a woman to win primary state victories, unremarkable to have a woman in a close race to be our nominee, unremarkable to think that a woman can be the president of the <st1:country-region st=\"on\">United States<\/st1:country-region>,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said. \u201cAnd that is truly remarkable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:city> lost the U.S. Senate Republican primary in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peopleforpearce.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Pearce<\/a> last week by about 3,000 votes, or 2 percent.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hillary Clinton\u2019s exit from the Democratic presidential primary this weekend prompted an interesting opinion piece published in the New York Times from New Mexico\u2019s Heather Wilson.
