Luj\u00e1n<\/a> won the Democratic 3rd Congressional District Democratic primary tonight, and <a href=\"http:\/\/daneast4congress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Daniel East<\/a> won the Republican primary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">With 99 percent of precincts reporting, Luj\u00e1n had 42 percent of the vote to 26 percent for <a href=\"http:\/\/donfornewmexico.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Don Wiviott<\/a>. Four other Democrats were far behind. East won what the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/abqnews\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=7478&amp;&amp;Itemid=40\" target=\"_blank\">Albuquerque Journal<\/a> called \u201ca pretty surprising\u201d victory with 53 percent of the vote to 47 percent for <a href=\"http:\/\/marcogonzalesforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Marco Gonzales<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cMy campaign is about the people of <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>,\u201d Luj\u00e1n said in a statement released by his campaign. \u201cI will never forget that, and as your next congressman I will work every single day for the people of this district.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Wiviott, meanwhile, said his campaign was about changing \u201cpolitics as usual\u201d in northern <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWhat we saw tonight was not the defeat of one candidate, but the triumph of thousands of New Mexicans who made their voice loud and clear: Change is needed in <st1:place st=\"on\">Northern New Mexico<\/st1:place>,\u201d Wiviott said. \u201cThis campaign ends, but we hope that the people of northern <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> will both demand and receive greater opportunity from our political leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Update, 8:15 a.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Independent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carolmillercongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Carol Miller<\/a> reminded me in an e-mail that she\u2019s also in this race. She said she will file 11,000 signatures today to appear on the ballot in November. She said, with nearly 60 percent of Democrats voting against Luj\u00e1n, \u201cI can guarantee an interesting and exciting summer and fall.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ben R.
