{"id":3347,"date":"2008-06-04T00:11:00","date_gmt":"2008-06-04T06:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/06\/tinsley-wins-republican-2nd-district-primary\/"},"modified":"2008-06-04T00:11:00","modified_gmt":"2008-06-04T06:11:00","slug":"tinsley-wins-republican-2nd-district-primary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/06\/tinsley-wins-republican-2nd-district-primary\/","title":{"rendered":"Tinsley wins Republican 2nd District primary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SEYyIGS4CFI\/AAAAAAAAF-A\/h19H7yTnVrI\/s1600-h\/Tinsley,+Ed.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SEYyIGS4CFI\/AAAAAAAAF-A\/h19H7yTnVrI\/s200\/Tinsley,+Ed.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5207905133810681938\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.edtinsleyforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ed Tinsley<\/a> has won the Republican 2nd Congressional District primary.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">With 89 percent of precincts reporting, Tinsley had 31 percent of the vote to 20 percent each for <a href=\"http:\/\/aubreydunn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Aubrey Dunn Jr.<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montyforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Monty Newman<\/a>, 17 percent for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shortbaldhonest.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Greg Sowards<\/a> and 10 percent for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.earlgreer.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">C. Earl Greer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe\u2019re excited, and it was obviously a close race,\u201d Tinsley said in an interview. \u201cThere were a lot of great candidates, and I\u2019m honored.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Tinsley was speaking from the K-BOB\u2019s restaurant he owns in Ruidoso moments after telling supporters at the restaurant that he won the race.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Meanwhile, the Democratic 2nd District race remains too close to call. Tinsley said he\u2019s ready to face either Democratic candidate &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harryteagueforcongress08.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Harry Teague<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billmccamley.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill McCamley<\/a> &#8212; in November.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe look forward to an invigorated general election,\u201d Tinsley said. \u201cI think they\u2019re both great gentlemen and I think they both stand for their party issues. I just think there will be distinct differences.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Tinsley praised some of his primary opponents, saying Newman \u201cran a great race\u201d and Sowards \u201creally exceeded expectations.\u201d Tinsley said he considered Dunn the frontrunner through most of the race, but stayed consistently on Dunn\u2019s heels and remained patient.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">And he said he sympathizes with his opponents because he\u2019s been in their shoes. Tinsley lost the Republican 2nd District primary in 2002.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe\u2019re excited about what\u2019s occurred tonight and I want to reiterate the fantastic people that I\u2019ve run with and against during this campaign,\u201d Tinsley said. \u201cThey are champion folks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"\"> <\/span>Newman said he was \u201cthankful to be a part of the process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cEd did a good job and ended up with a win tonight,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re very pleased with our performance and what we\u2019ve done in a short time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Dunn campaign had no comment. Sowards and Greer could not immediately be reached for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Update, 1:40 a.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Sowards had this to say:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI called Ed up about 10:30 and congratulated him on the race,\u201d Sowards said. \u201cAt the time we were slugging it out in Do\u00f1a Ana and returns from other counties indicated it was over. I will help in whatever way I can to assure his victory in November. I am at peace with our effort.
