I already called Kintigh and congratulated him,\u201d Foley said in an interview. \u201cI wish Dennis well. I\u2019m ready now to do all I can to make sure we retain the seat, and we\u2019ll work to help Republicans with whoever wants my help.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Meanwhile, in the other hot legislative primary in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Roswell<\/st1:city><\/st1:place>, state Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=249&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Rod Adair<\/a> has a strong lead but isn\u2019t declaring victory. With 97 percent of precincts reporting, Adair is leading <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rorymcminn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rory McMinn<\/a> 55 percent to 45 percent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SEYcJsC4JVI\/AAAAAAAAF94\/KIU4YFHz8nE\/s1600-h\/Kintigh,+Dennis.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SEYcJsC4JVI\/AAAAAAAAF94\/KIU4YFHz8nE\/s200\/Kintigh,+Dennis.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5207880971868185938\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Kintigh could not be immediately reached for comment. Foley said he plans to resign his legislative seat in about a week and ask the county commissions in the counties he represents to appoint Kintigh to fill his term so he can start his work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Roswell<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> legislative primaries have been <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2008\/05\/roswells-legislative-primaries-become.html\">bitter battles<\/a> about which I\u2019ve already written. The campaigns of Kintigh and McMinn were bankrolled largely by <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2008\/05\/huge-contributions-fuel-effort-to-oust.html\">Roswell oilman Mark Murphy<\/a>. Foley said he hopes \u201cthe person who spent hundreds of thousands of dollars defeating me will do the same to defeat Democrats in November.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">McMinn said in an interview that he isn\u2019t ready to concede defeat. He said the math is against him, but it\u2019s too early to give up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SEYb_ukyYGI\/AAAAAAAAF9o\/QzNdRk_saYM\/s1600-h\/Adair,+Rod.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SEYb_ukyYGI\/AAAAAAAAF9o\/QzNdRk_saYM\/s200\/Adair,+Rod.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5207880800748593250\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Adair said he had only one comment, and referred to Psalm 140:11, which says, \u201cMay a slanderer not be established in the earth; May evil hunt the violent man speedily.\u201d Asked for clarification, he said he was referring to his race.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Foley, who has served in the Legislature for 10 years, has been a force who helped unite House Republicans and worked with a group of independent Democrats to create a loose coalition that could and often did override the will of the speaker and his Democratic allies. Foley\u2019s defeat will have a huge impact in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIt has been an honor and I appreciate that honor that my constituents bestowed on me, and I want to thank them for that,\u201d Foley said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SEYcAeXUubI\/AAAAAAAAF9w\/Q0ZqtASiBMI\/s1600-h\/McMinn,+Rory.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SEYcAeXUubI\/AAAAAAAAF9w\/Q0ZqtASiBMI\/s200\/McMinn,+Rory.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5207880813577025970\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Asked what he\u2019s going to do next, Foley said, \u201cSpend time with my family. Work with my supporters to make sure they\u2019re going to support Dennis and try to go finally make some of that big money I\u2019ve been accused of making in this campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Kintigh will face a Democratic opponent, Mary Frances Barron, in November.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Meanwhile, a number of veteran lawmakers in <st1:city st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:city> were defeated tonight, but the two lawmakers from <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Do\u00f1a<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">Ana<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place> who faced primary challenges appear to be winning easily.
