You can watch that report by clicking <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kob.com\/article\/stories\/s2347916.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As NMPolitics.net <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2011\/07\/judge-murphy-arrested-on-new-charge\/\" target=\"_blank\">has reported<\/a>, that bribery charge is based on allegations that Murphy offered \u201cseveral promises\u201d to District Judge Schultz during a December 2010 meeting if she would agree to be the tie-breaking vote to make Douglas R. Driggers the chief district judge in Las Cruces. Murphy says he\u2019s innocent.<\/p>\n<h3>\u2018Outlandish and inflammatory\u2019 comments<\/h3>\n<p>What hadn\u2019t been reported on publicly \u2013 until now \u2013 was the extent of what, in the words of KOB reporter Gadi Schwartz, are \u201coutlandish and inflammatory\u201d comments Murphy made during that conversation with Schultz \u2013 a conversation Schultz secretly recorded.<\/p>\n<p>You can listen to the full recording <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kob.com\/article\/stories\/S2347977.shtml?cat=504\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/eplayer.clipsyndicate.com\/cs_api\/iframe?pl_id=13637&amp;wpid=1295&amp;page_count=6&amp;tags=default&amp;windows=1&amp;va_id=2972066&amp;show_title=0&amp;auto_start=0&amp;auto_next=0\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" width=\"425\" height=\"330\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>During the meeting with Schultz, Murphy shared details of a conversation he said he had with an employee of the court. Here\u2019s what Murphy said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cHe, you know, I told him a big old nasty faggot joke, and he says, you do know I\u2019m gay? And I said of course. I said, if you weren\u2019t I wouldn&#8217;t have told you that joke.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He also talked with Schultz, who is a lesbian, about a female cousin he described as being gay. Murphy said when men \u201chit on her,\u201d she would tell them that they had a lot in common: \u201cWe both like to eat pussy.\u201d He then described her as \u201ca diesel dike from day one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Murphy spoke during the conversation with Schultz about an apparent investigation into his conduct, referencing \u201cmy confidential deal about being, you know, uh, anti-gay, anti-semitic.\u201d He said such allegations are \u201ca crock of shit. You know, I may be rude, crude, and socially unacceptable, but I\u2019m none of those other things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s lots more. Watch KOB\u2019s second segment, which delves into the remarks, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kob.com\/article\/stories\/S2347915.shtml?cat=504\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/eplayer.clipsyndicate.com\/cs_api\/iframe?pl_id=13637&amp;wpid=1295&amp;page_count=6&amp;tags=default&amp;windows=1&amp;va_id=2972104&amp;show_title=0&amp;auto_start=0&amp;auto_next=0\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" width=\"425\" height=\"330\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>\u2018My skin was crawling\u2019<\/h3>\n<p>Included in that segment is an interview with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gaynewmexico.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">New Mexico GLBTQ Centers<\/a> Executive Director David Stocum, who listened to the recording and then reacted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy skin was crawling, when I was listening to them,\u201d KOB quoted Stocum as saying about Murphy\u2019s statements. \u201cWhat I heard on that tape \u2013 I would not want to be a gay man or a lesbian standing in front of that judge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That raises a question about whether, if the suspended judge ever returns to the bench, he can preside over a case involving someone who is gay without there being at least an appearance of bias.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>KOB didn\u2019t highlight a statement about Hispanics some might view as offensive, but it\u2019s part of the same conversation with Schultz.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTraditions and culture are the hardest things to change,\u201d Murphy said while referencing a new law relating to DWIs that he wanted to propose. \u201cI\u2019m not gonna talk Manny Mexican into having a quincea\u00f1era without having a keg.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>\u2018The First Amendment is a good thing\u2019<\/h3>\n<p>NMPolitics.net asked Murphy\u2019s attorney, Michael Stout, in August about the statements Murphy made during the meeting with Schultz. Here\u2019s what Stout had to say:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe First Amendment is a good thing, huh?
