{"id":3314,"date":"2008-05-30T20:35:00","date_gmt":"2008-05-31T02:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/05\/mccamley-teague-continue-sparring\/"},"modified":"2008-05-30T20:35:00","modified_gmt":"2008-05-31T02:35:00","slug":"mccamley-teague-continue-sparring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/05\/mccamley-teague-continue-sparring\/","title":{"rendered":"McCamley, Teague continue sparring"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Democratic 2nd Congressional District candidates <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billmccamley.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill McCamley<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harryteagueforcongress08.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Harry Teague<\/a> continued sparring today, and both released their newest television commercials on the Internet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Here\u2019s the McCamley ad that started the sparring \u2013 the ad I\u2019ve already written about that compares Teague to President Bush:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><object width=\"420\" height=\"351\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/cgLwuxp6Ym4&amp;hl=en\"><\/param><param name=\"wmode\" value=\"transparent\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/cgLwuxp6Ym4&amp;hl=en\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" wmode=\"transparent\" width=\"420\" height=\"351\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Teague\u2019s newest ad isn\u2019t available in a format that can be embedded on other Web sites, but you can view it by clicking <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harryteagueforcongress08.com\/video.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. It\u2019s the ad on the page titled \u201cSolutions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cBill McCamley is running a dishonest, negative campaign attacking Harry Teague. That\u2019s wrong. Only Teague has spelled out the change we want,\u201d the ad\u2019s narrator states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The ad then goes on to refer to endorsements from the governor, lieutenant governor, Albuquerque Journal and Hobbs News-Sun. It\u2019s the second ad in which Teague calls himself the candidate of change. In the first he says there is \u201conly one candidate for change: Harry Teague.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In a news release, the McCamley campaign accused Teague of attempting to remake his image in the final days of the campaign. It referred to an Associated Press article from May 23 in which Teague said, \u201cWhen you look at who has always represented this district forever, it\u2019s been a middle-aged conservative businessman from the east side of the mountains.\u201d He then adds, later in the article, \u201cHarold Runnels, Joe Skeen and Steve Pearce. In November, it\u2019s going to be me. That\u2019s what the people want. That\u2019s what they\u2019ve wanted for the past 40 years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cSo is Teague just like \u2018who has always represented this district forever\u2019 or is he the \u2018only candidate of change?\u2019\u201d the McCamley news release asked. \u201cHe can\u2019t have it both ways.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Teague contributed the maximum amount ($2,100) to Republican incumbent Steve Pearce in the last election,\u201d McCamley spokesman Michael Ward said. \u201cBy his own admission, Mr. Teague is the same as Pearce, Skeen and everyone who has \u2018always represented this district forever,\u2019 and now he\u2019s trying to be the candidate of change? That is misleading. There is more change in my couch than in electing Mr. Teague.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The McCamley campaign also took issue in its news release with Teague calling McCamley\u2019s ad \u201cdishonest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThey do not say what exactly about the ad is dishonest,\u201d McCamley\u2019s release states. \u201cIf the Teague campaign believes there is some specific fact that is untrue, they ought to dispute it. They haven\u2019t, because everything in the McCamley ad is true.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Teague, in a statement released by his office, said he has \u201crun a positive, issue oriented campaign\u201d and is \u201ccommitted to change in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:State><\/st1:place>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cChanging the way <st1:state st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:State> treats working families and changing the <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> culture that rewards games and negative attacks,\u201d Teague said. \u201cThe voters won\u2019t be fooled by last minutes attacks. They want someone who can go to <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:State><\/st1:place> and get things done.
