{"id":3310,"date":"2008-05-30T14:37:00","date_gmt":"2008-05-30T20:37:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/05\/right-wing-border-security-group-endorses-dunn\/"},"modified":"2008-05-30T14:37:00","modified_gmt":"2008-05-30T20:37:00","slug":"right-wing-border-security-group-endorses-dunn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/05\/right-wing-border-security-group-endorses-dunn\/","title":{"rendered":"Right-wing border-security group endorses Dunn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SEBljjBS7zI\/AAAAAAAAF6o\/EopaHDfcUOQ\/s1600-h\/Dunn,+Aubrey.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SEBljjBS7zI\/AAAAAAAAF6o\/EopaHDfcUOQ\/s200\/Dunn,+Aubrey.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5206272830610796338\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.minutemanhq.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Minuteman Civil Defense Corps<\/a> Political Action Committee has announced its support of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aubreydunn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Aubrey Dunn<\/a> in the 2nd Congressional District Republican primary.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe generally get involved only with campaigns where there is a clear-cut difference on the issues and a real opportunity to win,\u201d said Carmen Mercer, honorary chair of the PAC, in a recent e-mail to Minuteman supporters. \u201cThe question is: Will the GOP nominate a pro-amnesty candidate in the primary, or will they support a pro-American sovereignty, pro-national security, anti-amnesty conservative like Aubrey Dunn?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew Mexicans simply can\u2019t afford to lose this congressional seat to a candidate who takes his marching orders from <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> special interests and militant pro-amnesty groups,\u201d Mercer said, according to a news release from the Dunn campaign. \u201cAubrey Dunn can defeat the pro-amnesty crowd\u2019s hand-picked candidate in the Republican Primary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The \u201cpro-amnesty\u201d candidate Mercer is referring to is Republican <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edtinsleyforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ed Tinsley<\/a>, a former president of the National Restaurant Association, which backed a controversial immigration reform bill last year that moderates supported but the Minutemen and other groups condemned as providing amnesty. Their lobbying efforts killed the proposal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThis election is a choice between a candidate who will support amnesty in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> and a candidate who will oppose amnesty,\u201d Dunn said in the news release. \u201cAs our next congressman, I will fight to protect our border, and I\u2019ll strongly oppose amnesty for illegal aliens.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Update, 8:10 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Tinsley spokesman Christopher Maloney pointed out that Tinsley was not president of the restaurant group when it lobbied for the immigration bill in question.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cEd Tinsley has never supported amnesty, period. Our nation\u2019s broken immigration system is an epidemic that will not be solved with empty rhetoric, outsourced endorsements or disingenuous attacks,\u201d Maloney said. \u201cEd Tinsley has campaigned throughout the district talking about the substantive ideas and solutions that are needed to stop illegal immigration.
