{"id":3284,"date":"2008-05-27T11:38:00","date_gmt":"2008-05-27T17:38:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/05\/pearce-wilson-announce-new-endorsements-2\/"},"modified":"2008-05-27T11:38:00","modified_gmt":"2008-05-27T17:38:00","slug":"pearce-wilson-announce-new-endorsements-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/05\/pearce-wilson-announce-new-endorsements-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Pearce, Wilson announce new endorsements"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SDxHTcjg8PI\/AAAAAAAAF2E\/HBdXB3I4z9w\/s1600-h\/Pearce,+Steve.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SDxHTcjg8PI\/AAAAAAAAF2E\/HBdXB3I4z9w\/s200\/Pearce,+Steve.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5205113668741689586\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Republican U.S. Senate candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peopleforpearce.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Pearce<\/a> has picked up a number of endorsements in recent days in <st1:city st=\"on\">Farmington<\/st1:city>, while his primary opponent, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heatherforsenate.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Heather Wilson<\/a>, has announced other endorsements, including those of two <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">U.S.<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> senators.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Pearce has received the endorsements of state Sens. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=287&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Sharer<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=307&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Neville<\/a> and Reps. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=330&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">James Strickler<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=325&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Paul Bandy<\/a>, all from <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Farmington<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>. He was also endorsed by San Juan County Commissioner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sjcounty.net\/CommissionersDetails.aspx?ItemID=3\" target=\"_blank\">Keith Johnson<\/a>, former Commission Chairman Jack Fortner and former House Minority Leader Richard Cheney.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cSteve Pearce is a true conservative. He will be a strong voice for liberty and opportunity in the United States Senate,\u201d Bandy said in a release from the Pearce campaign.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThe reason I support Pearce is his consistent pro-life, pro-family and pro-business voting record,\u201d Strickler said in a release. \u201cCongressman Pearce has a great deal of experience in the energy industry, which is so vital to our corner of the state. Pearce recognizes that excessive regulation can \u2018kill the golden goose.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cHe is a true New Mexican,\u201d Neville said. \u201cHe has been a good friend to the agriculture, ranching and energy community. He is the type of leader who can make a positive difference for <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">San Juan<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> in the Senate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SDxHT8jg8QI\/AAAAAAAAF2M\/WZm6XXvEQgI\/s1600-h\/Wilson,+Heather.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SDxHT8jg8QI\/AAAAAAAAF2M\/WZm6XXvEQgI\/s200\/Wilson,+Heather.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5205113677331624194\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><st1:city st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:city>, meanwhile, has picked up the endorsements of <st1:state st=\"on\">Utah<\/st1:state>\u2019s <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">U.S.<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> senators, <a href=\"http:\/\/hatch.senate.gov\/public\/\" target=\"_blank\">Orrin Hatch<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/bennett.senate.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bob Bennett<\/a>, in addition to that of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.santafenewmexican.com\/Opinion\/Wilson-s-better-choice-as-GOP-contender\" target=\"_blank\">The Santa Fe New Mexican<\/a> and Torrance County Commission Chairman Leroy Candelaria.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:city> has been endorsed by several <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">U.S.<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> senators, while Pearce has been endorsed by none.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cSenator <a href=\"http:\/\/domenici.senate.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Domenici<\/a> always followed his conservative principals while standing up for the needs of his state,\u201d Hatch said in a release from the <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> campaign. \u201cI believe Heather Wilson will lead in the same manner and I am proud to endorse her campaign for U.S. Senate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI normally don\u2019t inject myself into primary races\u2026 but I have gotten to know Heather Wilson by virtue of my service as a member of the Board of Visitors for the Air Force Academy,\u201d Bennett said. \u201cI have found her to be intelligent, resourceful and, frankly, tough. She has the kind of attributes that I would dearly love to welcome into the Senate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Candelaria said the deciding factor in his endorsement was that <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> \u201chas stood up for veterans and active-duty military personnel for as long as I have known her.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">While The New Mexican endorsed Wilson, saying that, with Domenici as her mentor, she has \u201clearned well from the New Mexico legend \u2013 especially when it comes to Pete\u2019s fiscally responsible traits\u201d \u2013 the newspaper also pointed out that it has already endorsed Democratic U.S. Senate candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tomudall.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Udall<\/a> in the general election.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cTom Udall has represented our congressional district honestly, courageously and effectively; he would serve our state with great distinction,\u201d the paper\u2019s editorial states.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republican U.S. Senate candidate Steve Pearce has picked up a number of endorsements in recent days in Farmington, while his primary opponent, Heather Wilson, has announced other endorsements, including those of two U.S. senators.
