Luj\u00e1n\u2019s<\/a> record in his newest TV ad, another assault on the frontrunner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Here\u2019s the ad:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><object height=\"351\" width=\"420\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/EK4AJmK_ub8&amp;hl=en\"><param name=\"wmode\" value=\"transparent\"><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/EK4AJmK_ub8&amp;hl=en\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" wmode=\"transparent\" height=\"351\" width=\"420\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The ad refers to Wiviott\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2008\/05\/wiviott-goes-negative-in-ad-attacking.html\">previous negative ad<\/a>, which accused Luj\u00e1n of missing 13 of 14 meetings of the state Telehealth Commission while being paid $90,000. The new ad then attacks Luj\u00e1n for taking trips to <st1:city st=\"on\">Miami<\/st1:city>, <st1:city st=\"on\">Reno<\/st1:city> and <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">San Diego<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> at taxpayer expense, and says that\u2019s why Democrats are supporting Wiviott.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">As the Luj\u00e1n campaign has already pointed out, while the accusation that Luj\u00e1n missed the meetings is true, being a member of the commission is something Luj\u00e1n does as a volunteer, not in his paid capacity as a member of the Public Regulation Commission, so the two are not connected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Wiviott\u2019s new ad also gives no context for the taxpayer-funded trips. Were they for PRC-related business meetings?<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In the <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2008\/05\/lujn-heinrich-leading-in-abq-journal.html\">Albuquerque Journal poll<\/a> released Sunday, Luj\u00e1n was leading Wiviott 29 percent to 23 percent. The primary is a week from today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Update, 9:15 a.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Luj\u00e1n spokesman Mark Nicastre had this to say about Wiviott\u2019s new ad:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cDon Wiviott doesn\u2019t want to talk about Ben Ray Luj\u00e1n\u2019s real record of accomplishment or about the fact that Ben Ray Luj\u00e1n was endorsed by the Santa Fe New Mexican, the Albuquerque Journal, Stewart Udall, every leading conservation group and nearly every labor union because Luj\u00e1n cleaned up corruption at the PRC, stood up to Qwest after they took advantage of consumers and led the effort to make New Mexico a national leader in clean, renewable energy like wind and solar power,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cDon Wiviott is running exactly the kind of campaign he decries &#8212; misleading attack ads instead of discussing the real issues. Of the three work trips Wiviott\u2019s misleading ad mentions, two were trainings for regulatory commissioners and the third was the annual meeting of the National Association of Regulator Commissioners at which Commissioner Luj\u00e1n worked with his peers to develop a regulatory framework for moving the West towards a clean, alternative energy future,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThis is just another attempt by Don Wiviott to mislead the voters of the 3rd Congressional District,\u201d Nicastre concluded.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Update, 9:55 a.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Wiviott spokesman Webster Cash responded to Nicastre\u2019s comments by saying this:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cLooks like the training did him little good, considering Luj\u00e1n voted to raise energy prices on the backs of countless thousands of struggling New Mexicans,\u201d he said. \u201cIf that\u2019s the sort of thing he learned in <st1:city st=\"on\">Miami<\/st1:City>, the people of <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> would have been better served if he\u2019d stayed home.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Democratic 3rd Congressional District candidate Don Wiviott continues spinning primary opponent Ben R.
