He\u2019s being backed by the National Association of Realtors, whose political action committee has spent $1 million <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2008\/05\/realtors-spend-another-400k-promoting.html\">to promote Newman\u2019s candidacy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cRather than telling you why you should not vote for someone else, I\u2019m going to tell you why you should vote for me,\u201d Newman said in a news release from his campaign. \u201cI am a conservative Republican. As a father of a West Point graduate who is a veteran of the war in <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Iraq<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>, I know the commitment it takes to have a strong national defense. As mayor, I understand better than any other candidate the need to curb the never-ending appetite of the federal government. As a businessman, I understand we need less government regulation to allow our American spirit to thrive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">As I\u2019ve written, Tinsley has attacked Newman as a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.haussamen.com\/TinsleyMaileronNewman.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cbad deal for taxpayers.\u201d<\/a> Though I haven\u2019t written about this, the Newman news release said Dunn has accused him of being soft on immigration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cDespite the recent negative attacks, I will not go negative,\u201d Newman said. \u201cI don\u2019t think the voters in the 2nd Congressional District deserve this type of campaign. I certainly do not.
