{"id":3251,"date":"2008-05-20T14:40:00","date_gmt":"2008-05-20T20:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/05\/wilson-touts-new-endorsements-in-senate-race\/"},"modified":"2008-05-20T14:40:00","modified_gmt":"2008-05-20T20:40:00","slug":"wilson-touts-new-endorsements-in-senate-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/05\/wilson-touts-new-endorsements-in-senate-race\/","title":{"rendered":"Wilson touts new endorsements in Senate race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SDM3YoyZu9I\/AAAAAAAAFy8\/62gKVwsTuLE\/s1600-h\/Wilson,+Heather.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SDM3YoyZu9I\/AAAAAAAAFy8\/62gKVwsTuLE\/s200\/Wilson,+Heather.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5202562890948262866\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Republican U.S. Senate candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heatherforsenate.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Heather Wilson<\/a> has announced new endorsements in recent days that include the <st1:city st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:city> city council president, the Tijeras mayor and a <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">New York<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> newspaper.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:city>\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cabq.gov\/council\/councilors\/district-4\/district-4\" target=\"_blank\">Brad Winter<\/a>, in his endorsement of <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>, said she has done \u201can excellent job\u201d as the representative of the 1st Congressional District.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThere\u2019s a reason she gets re-elected every cycle in a Democratic district. Heather Wilson cares about the people and the families she represents,\u201d Winter said in a release from the <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> campaign. \u201cShe doesn\u2019t vote the way special interests tell her to; she votes the way she knows is right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said she was \u201cvery pleased\u201d to have Winter\u2019s endorsement, saying he has fought to keep city taxes low and government open and honest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In a news release announcing her endorsement, Tijeras Mayor Gloria Chavez said <st1:city st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:city> \u201chas worked hard to ensure that small municipalities like the <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placetype st=\"on\">Village<\/st1:placetype> of <st1:placename st=\"on\">Tijeras<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place> don\u2019t fall through the cracks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cLike Senator Domenici, Heather has been a champion for the needs of rural <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>,\u201d she said. \u201cShe is the best fit to succeed Senator Domenici and will continue to address the needs of rural <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> in the U.S. Senate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">And the <st1:state st=\"on\">New York<\/st1:state> Sun, in <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.nysun.com\/editorials\/heather-wilsons-war\/76597\/\" target=\"_blank\">its endorsement of Wilson<\/a>, called her \u201cone of our favorite members of Congress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cOur view is that if the Republican Party of 2008 would prefer to lose with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peopleforpearce.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mr. Pearce<\/a> than win with Ms. Wilson, it deserves its fate,\u201d the endorsement states. \u201c\u2026 She has built a reputation for doing her homework. She\u2019s a supporter of a hard-line in the war on terror, is a stickler for command accountability in the military, backs making permanent President Bush\u2019s supply-side tax cuts, has never voted against a free trade agreement, and has emerged as a pro-family leader informed by her experience in this area in state government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cShe has achieved all this while representing a relatively liberal congressional district and managing to earn respect across a wide swath of the <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> polity,\u201d the endorsement states. \u201cWe would suggest that she\u2019s the natural heir to Senator Domenici save for the fact that it would under-state her potential somewhere down the line on a national ticket.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republican U.S. Senate candidate Heather Wilson has announced new endorsements in recent days that include the Albuquerque city council president, the Tijeras mayor and a New York newspaper.
