Any U.S. House candidate who loans his campaign more than $350,000 triples contribution limits for his opponents from $2,300 to $6,900.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Dunn\u2019s newest loan further complicates a wide-open primary that has seen the <a href=\"http:\/\/query.nictusa.com\/cgi-bin\/dcdev\/forms\/C00030718\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Association of Realtors Political Action Committee<\/a> spend almost $600,000 to promote <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montyforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Monty Newman<\/a>, who has also loaned his own campaign $100,000. Another candidate in the GOP primary, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shortbaldhonest.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Greg Sowards<\/a>, has loaned his campaign $325,000, and candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edtinsleyforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ed Tinsley<\/a> has loaned $200,000 to his campaign.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The final candidate in the GOP primary, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.earlgreer.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">C. Earl Greer<\/a>, has loaned his campaign just under $28,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Tinsley and Newman have also raised big money from outside sources, with Tinsley having raised a little more than $413,000 as of March 31 and Newman having raised a little more than $195,000 by that date. Both have used connections to raise that cash \u2013 Tinsley is a past president of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.restaurant.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Restaurant Association<\/a> and Newman is past vice president of the Realtors\u2019 group \u2013 and both will likely be able to take advantage of the increased contribution limits because of those connections.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Dunn, meanwhile, had raised $102,347 from outside contributors as of March 31.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The race has become increasingly negative in recent weeks. <span style=\"text-transform: uppercase;\">A<\/span> source with the Dunn campaign who refused to be identified explained the newest loan by saying Dunn and his wife \u201care unwilling to stand by as <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> special-interest groups try to buy the 2nd Congressional District race to further their liberal agendas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Dunn is the third House candidate from <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> to trigger the Millionaire\u2019s Amendment and triple contribution limits for his opponents this year. Democratic 2nd Congressional District candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harryteagueforcongress08.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Harry Teague<\/a> has loaned his campaign $684,572.92. Democratic 3rd Congressional District candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/donfornewmexico.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Don Wiviott<\/a> has loaned his campaign $1,090,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Update, May 19, 10:40 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In a news release, Tinsley campaign spokesman Christopher Maloney said the 2nd Congressional District seat \u201cis not for sale.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIt is no surprise that Aubrey Dunn Jr. has decided to double-down with his money on his flailing campaign strategy,\u201d he said. \u201cWith Aubrey Dunn, Jr., New Mexico Republicans have a wolf in sheep\u2019s clothing. The Dunn campaign is having trouble funding their message because voters see through the empty rhetoric for what the candidate truly is: a liberal Democrat candidate who espouses liberal tendencies.
