{"id":3230,"date":"2008-05-15T10:22:00","date_gmt":"2008-05-15T16:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/05\/wilson-picks-up-mayoral-newspaper-endorsements\/"},"modified":"2008-05-15T10:22:00","modified_gmt":"2008-05-15T16:22:00","slug":"wilson-picks-up-mayoral-newspaper-endorsements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/05\/wilson-picks-up-mayoral-newspaper-endorsements\/","title":{"rendered":"Wilson picks up mayoral, newspaper endorsements"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SCxjc4yZueI\/AAAAAAAAFvM\/-ar_6TtyvDA\/s1600-h\/Wilson,+Heather.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SCxjc4yZueI\/AAAAAAAAFvM\/-ar_6TtyvDA\/s200\/Wilson,+Heather.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5200641017637353954\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.heatherforsenate.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Heather Wilson<\/a> has picked up the endorsements of the <st1:city st=\"on\">Farmington<\/st1:city> mayor and a <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Silver<\/st1:placename>  <st1:placetype st=\"on\">City<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> newspaper in recent days in her quest to win the Republican U.S. Senate primary.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In endorsing <st1:city st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:city> over primary opponent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peopleforpearce.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Pearce<\/a>, Farmington Mayor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fmtn.org\/city_government\/administration\/mayor.html\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Standley<\/a> said <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> \u201cis a conservative leader of sound judgment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWhen Heather Wilson votes, she votes for the needs of New Mexicans, and I believe she will continue to do that when she\u2019s elected to the Senate,\u201d he said in a release from the <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> campaign. \u201c<st1:city st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:city>\u2019s recent work to protect critical funding for rural hospitals, including <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">San Juan<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">Regional<\/st1:placename>  <st1:placename st=\"on\">Medical<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">Center<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place>, is a perfect example of her commonsense, conservative leadership. Heather Wilson believes in low taxes and smaller government, but she also believes in standing up for New Mexicans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Standley\u2019s endorsement follows that of San Juan County Commission Chairman <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sjcounty.net\/CommissionersDetails.aspx?ItemID=5\" target=\"_blank\">Tony Atkinson<\/a>, who put his support behind <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> last week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI am very pleased with the support my campaign is receiving in <st1:placename st=\"on\">San Juan<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placetype>,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said in the release. \u201cIt shows that Republicans in northwest <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> know they don\u2019t have to sacrifice conservative leadership for commonsense judgment. I look forward to working with them to keep this seat in the Republican column come November.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Meanwhile, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scdailypress.com\/index.php?pSetup=silvercitydailypress\" target=\"_blank\">Silver City Daily Press<\/a> has also endorsed <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>. In an editorial, the paper said that, though neither candidate \u201cseems to know much about the southwestern corner of the state\u2026 we hope that changes if <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> is elected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cShe\u2019s more moderate and reasonable, and she supported the Children\u2019s Health Insurance Program where Pearce didn\u2019t. A lot of people in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> depend on that insurance,\u201d the editorial states. \u201cShe\u2019s more appealing to swing voters, and more likely to attract voters against a very strong Democratic opponent, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tomudall.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">(Tom) Udall<\/a>, in the general election.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Heather Wilson has picked up the endorsements of the Farmington mayor and a Silver City newspaper in recent days in her quest to win the Republican U.S. Senate primary.
