Because <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peopleforpearce.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Pearce<\/a> refused an interview, the article was largely about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heatherforsenate.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Heather Wilson<\/a>. There was one topic discussed during my interview with <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> that didn\u2019t fit into the article but I wanted to write about.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I asked <st1:city st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:city> to talk about things she liked and disliked about both current <st1:country-region st=\"on\">U.S.<\/st1:country-region> senators from <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>, Republican <a href=\"http:\/\/domenici.senate.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pete Domenici<\/a> and Democrat <a href=\"http:\/\/bingaman.senate.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jeff Bingaman<\/a>. My question was designed to get a sense of her approach to government and also how she would work with Bingaman if the two were <st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state>\u2019s <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">U.S.<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> senators beginning in January 2009.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SCs0royZubI\/AAAAAAAAFu0\/QlaC1HaNtRg\/s1600-h\/Bingaman,+Jeff.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SCs0royZubI\/AAAAAAAAFu0\/QlaC1HaNtRg\/s200\/Bingaman,+Jeff.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5200308119017208242\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> didn\u2019t answer the question, saying she prefers to focus on issues instead of personalities. However, later in the conversation, we came back to the issue of the <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> delegation. <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said the current members of the delegation get along better than many in other states, and noted that they all share one staffer to help with coordination.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThere are things we need to get done for <st1:state st=\"on\">New  Mexico<\/st1:state>, and we work together,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">So I asked about Bingaman again. Could she work with him? <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> paused before answering.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cSen. Bingaman has supported every opponent I\u2019ve ever had,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said, but she added that she doesn\u2019t take offense at that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cElections are elections, but once the election is over, you have to get the job done,\u201d she said. \u201cIf I took offense at that, we\u2019d never get anything done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:city> noted that, next year, Bingaman will become the senior senator from <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> and, if she\u2019s elected, she will be the senior Republican among the state\u2019s congressional delegation. She said she would lead the Republicans in the delegation to work with the Democrats to accomplish what\u2019s best for <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this week, I profiled the Republican U.S. Senate primary.
