{"id":3219,"date":"2008-05-13T15:10:00","date_gmt":"2008-05-13T21:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/05\/sierra-club-endorses-mccamley-in-cd2\/"},"modified":"2008-05-13T15:10:00","modified_gmt":"2008-05-13T21:10:00","slug":"sierra-club-endorses-mccamley-in-cd2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/05\/sierra-club-endorses-mccamley-in-cd2\/","title":{"rendered":"Sierra Club endorses McCamley in CD2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SCoD1IyZuUI\/AAAAAAAAFt8\/1ljlB7_NU-g\/s1600-h\/McCamley,+Bill.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SCoD1IyZuUI\/AAAAAAAAFt8\/1ljlB7_NU-g\/s200\/McCamley,+Bill.JPG\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5199972931179493698\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sierraclub.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sierra Club<\/a> has endorsed Democrat <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billmccamley.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill McCamley<\/a> in the 2nd Congressional District race, citing his work to protect the environment.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe are confident that he will continue work to protect <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>\u2019s environment for our families and for our future,\u201d said Thomas Robey, political committee chair for the group\u2019s Rio Grande Chapter, in a news release from the McCamley campaign.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">McCamley, a <st1:placename st=\"on\">Do\u00f1a<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">Ana<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placename> commissioner, has successfully pushed resolutions to protect the Otero Mesa, Paleolithic Trackways in the western part of the county and the <st1:placename st=\"on\">Rio Grande<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">Valley<\/st1:placetype>, and has fought for permanent wilderness status for the <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Organ<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">Mountains<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place>. According to the release, he has also worked to help establish a wind-energy project in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Logan<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>, and has \u201cset an example for his fellow citizens by purchasing carbon credits to offset his emissions from driving.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe are deeply grateful to Bill McCamley for his support for the protection of New Mexico\u2019s special places,\u201d Glenn Landers, chair of the Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter\u2019s Southern New Mexico Group, said in the release. \u201cHe is a true environmental champion who has a great record on environmental issues, but also leads the fight to protect <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>\u2019s clean air, clean water and special places.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Sierra Club pledged to activate its membership to help McCamley get elected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"\"> <\/span>\u201cWe look forward to a victory party for the environment on election night and to many more years of Bill McCamley fighting for the environment as a <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">U.S.<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> representative,\u201d said David Farrell, political committee chair for the Sierra Club\u2019s Southern New Mexico Group.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"font-style: italic;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">As I\u2019ve disclosed in the past, I\u2019m friends with McCamley.
