{"id":3197,"date":"2008-05-08T08:14:00","date_gmt":"2008-05-08T14:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/05\/another-n-m-superdelegate-leaning-toward-obama\/"},"modified":"2008-05-08T08:14:00","modified_gmt":"2008-05-08T14:14:00","slug":"another-n-m-superdelegate-leaning-toward-obama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/05\/another-n-m-superdelegate-leaning-toward-obama\/","title":{"rendered":"Another N.M. superdelegate leaning toward Obama?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Is Democratic superdelegate Laurie Weahkee getting ready to pick a presidential candidate?<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">One of two unpledged superdelegates from <st1:state st=\"on\">New  Mexico<\/st1:state>, Weahkee is quoted prominently in a nationally distributed <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/ap\/20080508\/ap_on_el_pr\/superdelegates;_ylt=AnpIe.wX1MlmQjai6kkZhwCs0NUE\" target=\"_blank\">Associated Press<\/a> article today questioning the viability of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hillaryclinton.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hillary Clinton\u2019s<\/a> presidential campaign following <st1:city st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:city>\u2019s big loss in <st1:state st=\"on\">North Carolina<\/st1:state> and narrow victory in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Indiana<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI\u2019m just wondering about the viability of <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:city><\/st1:place>\u2019s campaign at this point,\u201d the news service quoted Weahkee as saying.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Does that mean she\u2019s getting ready to pledge her support to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barackobama.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Barack Obama<\/a>? Maybe. Maybe not.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI really want to hear from (<st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>) more about if she wants to stay in the race \u2013 if the reason remains very concrete,\u201d Weahkee told the news service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> says she is staying in the race, but she\u2019s losing support, and many analysts say the Democratic primary is effectively over. However, as the news service reported, many unpledged superdelegates say they\u2019re going to stay on the sidelines until after June 3, when all primary contests are completed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">That, coupled with <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s pledge to stay in the race, suggests that the primary will drag on for at least another month, even if the analysts are correct.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Of <st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state>\u2019s 12 superdelegates, six have pledged their support for <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> and four are backing Obama. <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state><\/st1:place>\u2019s other unpledged superdelegate is U.S. Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tomudall.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Udall<\/a>, who is still refusing to talk about his vote beyond saying he remains uncommitted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Is Democratic superdelegate Laurie Weahkee getting ready to pick a presidential candidate?
