{"id":319,"date":"2006-06-26T14:30:00","date_gmt":"2006-06-26T20:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2006\/06\/breaking-news-county-elections-bureau-supervisor-langford-suspended-future-unclear\/"},"modified":"2006-06-26T14:30:00","modified_gmt":"2006-06-26T20:30:00","slug":"breaking-news-county-elections-bureau-supervisor-langford-suspended-future-unclear","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2006\/06\/breaking-news-county-elections-bureau-supervisor-langford-suspended-future-unclear\/","title":{"rendered":"BREAKING NEWS: County Elections Bureau Supervisor Langford suspended, future unclear"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Do\u00f1a Ana County Elections Bureau Supervisor Mari Langford has been removed from her position and placed on paid administrative leave.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color:black;\">\u201cDo\u00f1a Ana County has informed Mari Langford-Pav\u00e3o that she has been relieved of her duties as Do\u00f1a Ana County\u2019s supervisor of elections and has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a personnel matter,\u201d County spokesman Jess Williams said. \u201cBecause it is a personnel matter, <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Do\u00f1a<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">Ana<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place> cannot release any further details. <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Do\u00f1a<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">Ana<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place> anticipates the matter will be finalized within two weeks\u2019 time.\u201d<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color:black;\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color:black;\">The action was taken Monday morning. By 2 p.m., Langford\u2019s county issued cellular telephone and e-mail address had been taken out of service, indicating that this is probably more than a suspension. <\/span><span style=\"color:black;\">When county employs are given notice of termination, they have two weeks to appeal.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color:black;\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color:black;\">Langford could not be reached for comment.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color:black;\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color:black;\">For now, Chief Deputy Clerk Cecilia Madrid is in charge of the elections bureau, Williams said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The county clerk\u2019s office has been under fire since the primary election earlier this month. Though there were fewer problems than in past elections, there were still issues with polling places and workers, prompting commissioners to issue harsh criticism of the clerk\u2019s office and form a task force to study the election and make recommended changes for future elections.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The commission is set to appoint members to that task force at Tuesday\u2019s meeting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">This is the second personnel issue involving Langford in recent months. She was one of six employees given notice on Oct. 14 of last year of the county\u2019s intent to fire them on allegations that they lied to gain health insurance for ineligible dependents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In Langford\u2019s case, the allegation was that she claimed her partner as a spouse though the two were not married. Langford provided proof of her marriage and kept her job.<br \/><o:p> <\/o:p><br \/><i style=\"\">An earlier version of this posting incorrectly stated that Langford appealed the October notice of intent to fire.
