{"id":3172,"date":"2008-05-02T09:08:00","date_gmt":"2008-05-02T15:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/05\/colon-to-announce-decision-in-the-very-near-future\/"},"modified":"2008-05-02T09:08:00","modified_gmt":"2008-05-02T15:08:00","slug":"colon-to-announce-decision-in-the-very-near-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/05\/colon-to-announce-decision-in-the-very-near-future\/","title":{"rendered":"Col\u00f3n to announce decision &#8216;in the very near future&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SBsuyckvrFI\/AAAAAAAAFo8\/yDVJOxQsgp0\/s1600-h\/Colon,+Brian.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SBsuyckvrFI\/AAAAAAAAFo8\/yDVJOxQsgp0\/s200\/Colon,+Brian.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5195798039300648018\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Brian Col\u00f3n, chairman of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmdemocrats.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Democratic Party of New Mexico<\/a> and a superdelegate, said he will announce his decision on whether to support <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hillaryclinton.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hillary Clinton<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barackobama.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Barack Obama<\/a> in the presidential primary \u201cin the very near future.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">He hinted, in an interview, that an announcement could come as soon as this weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Col\u00f3n is one of three superdelegates from <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> who have not publicly pledged their support to either candidate. Of the nine who have announced their decisions, six are supporting <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> and three are supporting Obama.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">There are \u201ca lot of factors\u201d Col\u00f3n said he is considering as he approaches a decision.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cOne is electability. One is, from a very personal perspective, who I think is best suited to lead the country and to make sure that we have success in November,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Col\u00f3n said he has received at least hundreds of phone calls and e-mails from people trying to convince him to back one candidate over the other, and said he takes the responsibility of being a superdelegate very seriously. He said he\u2019s often referred to by friends as a fence-sitter, but in this case, he can\u2019t do that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIt\u2019s certainly not a decision I take lightly,\u201d Col\u00f3n said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I wrote <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2008\/05\/its-tough-to-be-uncommitted.html\">on Thursday<\/a>, in a larger story about the uncommitted superdelegates, about <st1:city st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:city> backers who are challenging the selection of Laurie Weahkee as the final superdelegate from <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>. Col\u00f3n said they could appeal her selection to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dnc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Democratic National Committee<\/a>, but he doesn\u2019t know whether they will choose to do that.
