He had previously loaned his campaign a little less than $210,000, and has now loaned his campaign a total of $684,572.92.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Teague has been rapidly spending money on television ads for a couple of weeks and sent out a pricey, full-page, glossy mailer this weekend. The only publicly released polling of the Democratic primary showed his opponent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billmccamley.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill McCamley<\/a> with a 21-point lead over Teague in mid-March. <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2008\/03\/poll-gives-mccamley-commanding-lead.html\">The poll<\/a>, conducted for McCamley\u2019s campaign, had him ahead 43 percent to 22 percent with a margin of error of 4.9 percent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SBZHrckvqzI\/AAAAAAAAFms\/8nlsTtLW_8E\/s1600-h\/McCamley,+Bill.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SBZHrckvqzI\/AAAAAAAAFms\/8nlsTtLW_8E\/s200\/McCamley,+Bill.JPG\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5194418031948704562\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>The Millionaires\u2019 Amendment is triggered when a candidate gives or loans more than $350,000 to his own campaign. For McCamley, that triples contribution limits from $2,300 to $6,900, which allows him to go back to all previous donors and ask for more.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe obviously know that he\u2019s a millionaire oilman and that this was a possibility,\u201d McCamley said. \u201cThis election should be about more than how much money you have. It should be about where you stand on the issues, and we\u2019re going to keep talking about the issues. The government shouldn\u2019t be for the millionaires, of the millionaires and by the millionaires.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Teague\u2019s campaign spokesman said he would get back to me with comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">McCamley began April with $235,944 on hand, according to his <a href=\"http:\/\/herndon1.sdrdc.com\/cgi-bin\/cancomsrs\/?_08+H8NM02024\" target=\"_blank\">FEC report<\/a>, while Teague began it with $336,864 on hand, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/herndon1.sdrdc.com\/cgi-bin\/cancomsrs\/?_08+H8NM02032\" target=\"_blank\">his report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The only other congressional candidate in the state to trigger the Millionaires\u2019 Amendment is Third Congressional District Democratic candidate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.donfornewmexico.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Don Wiviott<\/a>, who has loaned his campaign $890,000.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Democratic 2nd Congressional District candidate Harry Teague filed notice today that he has loaned his campaign another $475,000, bringing the total he\u2019s contributed to his run to almost $700,000 and triggering the so-called Millionaires\u2019 Amendment that triples contribution limits in the primary race.
