{"id":3147,"date":"2008-04-25T17:18:00","date_gmt":"2008-04-25T23:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/04\/wilson-hits-pearce-in-her-first-tv-ad\/"},"modified":"2008-04-25T17:18:00","modified_gmt":"2008-04-25T23:18:00","slug":"wilson-hits-pearce-in-her-first-tv-ad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/04\/wilson-hits-pearce-in-her-first-tv-ad\/","title":{"rendered":"Wilson hits Pearce in her first TV ad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.heatherforsenate.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Heather Wilson<\/a> began running the first television ad of her Senate campaign today, a spot that points out her GOP primary opponent\u2019s negative campaigning and then hits him back.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">A news release from the <st1:city st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:City> campaign said the ad is running \u201cnearly statewide.\u201d I\u2019m assuming that means it\u2019s in the <st1:city st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:City> television market, which includes all of the state except <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Do\u00f1a<\/st1:PlaceName>  <st1:placename st=\"on\">Ana<\/st1:PlaceName> <st1:placename st=\"on\">County<\/st1:PlaceName><\/st1:place>. Here\u2019s the ad:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><object width=\"420\" height=\"351\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/TqQMKyhMc-Q&amp;hl=en\"><\/param><param name=\"wmode\" value=\"transparent\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/TqQMKyhMc-Q&amp;hl=en\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" wmode=\"transparent\" width=\"420\" height=\"351\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWhy is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peopleforpearce.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Pearce<\/a> running a negative campaign?\u201d the ad\u2019s narrator asks. \u201cBecause on important issues, he\u2019s wrong. Steve Pearce voted against adding 3,000 border guards to secure our border. And when Democrats tried to cut funding for the troops and require early withdrawal, Steve Pearce didn\u2019t vote.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The ad goes on to tout <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:City><\/st1:place> as the \u201ccommonsense conservative who can win in November.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The ad appears to be a direct response to recent attacks from Pearce. <st1:city st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:City> has criticized him in the past for voting against the <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2008\/04\/wilson-hits-pearce-over-border-patrol.html\">Border Patrol funding<\/a>, but Pearce has been hitting <st1:city st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:City> repeatedly for the last week for <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2008\/04\/pearce-continues-attacking-wilsons.html\">missing 22 votes<\/a> in Congress recently because she was in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> campaigning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Earlier this week, <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> put out a news release hitting back. It states that, while Pearce has been criticizing <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> for missing votes, he \u201cmissed one of the most important votes last year.\u201d That was when Democrats proposed tying troop-funding levels to a timeline for withdrawal from <st1:country-region st=\"on\">Iraq<\/st1:country-region>, a proposal <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> opposed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cSteve Pearce says he wants to secure the borders, but he\u2019s voted against hiring more Border Patrol,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> said. \u201cHe says he supports the labs, while he voted to devastate their budgets. He says he supports Cannon Air Force Base, but he was the only one in our delegation to vote to mothball it. Now he\u2019s criticizing my attendance record when he has a more important missed vote to account for.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Pearce campaign spokesman Brian Phillips said in response, \u201cRep. Wilson missed 22 votes and an entire week because she was too busy campaigning. That doesn\u2019t come anywhere close to missing one vote.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>\u2019s newest ad, her first of the campaign, paints the same picture as the news release. It comes days after Pearce began airing his new TV ad, which you can watch by clicking <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2008\/04\/wilson-says-new-pearce-ad-attacks.html\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">It appears that the gloves are off.
