{"id":3139,"date":"2008-04-24T11:37:00","date_gmt":"2008-04-24T17:37:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/04\/richardson-carville-spar-on-larry-king-live\/"},"modified":"2008-04-24T11:37:00","modified_gmt":"2008-04-24T17:37:00","slug":"richardson-carville-spar-on-larry-king-live","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/04\/richardson-carville-spar-on-larry-king-live\/","title":{"rendered":"Richardson, Carville spar on Larry King Live"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SBDFwMkvqYI\/AAAAAAAAFjU\/P6CqIh0VkGM\/s1600-h\/Richardson,+Bill.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SBDFwMkvqYI\/AAAAAAAAFjU\/P6CqIh0VkGM\/s200\/Richardson,+Bill.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5192867802157918594\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/governor.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Richardson<\/a> and Clintonista <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/James_Carville\" target=\"_blank\">James Carville<\/a> fought on CNN\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/CNN\/Programs\/larry.king.live\/\" target=\"_blank\">Larry King Live<\/a> on Wednesday evening about the Democratic presidential primary.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">There wasn\u2019t much sparring between the two about the spat that erupted when <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2008\/04\/shrewd-richardson-helps-himself-by.html\">Richardson endorsed Barack Obama<\/a> last month. At the time, Carville compared <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s endorsement to Judas\u2019 betrayal of Jesus, and a nasty fight ensued.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The most poignant moment in the show came when <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> accused <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hillaryclinton.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hillary Clinton<\/a> of \u201cclinging to the throne\u201d and trying to change the rules in the middle of the primary season because she believes she\u2019s entitled to the presidency.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SBDGd8kvqZI\/AAAAAAAAFjc\/0-2374RKac8\/s1600-h\/Carville,+James.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SBDGd8kvqZI\/AAAAAAAAFjc\/0-2374RKac8\/s200\/Carville,+James.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5192868588136933778\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>\u201cYou know, we\u2019re <st1:country-region st=\"on\">America<\/st1:country-region>, we\u2019re not <st1:country-region st=\"on\">Monaco<\/st1:country-region>,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Carville called <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s words \u201cidiocy\u201d and \u201cfoolishness.\u201d He repeatedly pointed out that people are voting and the race is continuing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">They argued about who is winning the popular vote, which depends on whether votes cast in <st1:state st=\"on\">Florida<\/st1:state> and <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Michigan<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> are counted. <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> rightly pointed out that, early in the race, all candidates including <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> agreed not to campaign in those states because they rejected the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dnc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">DNC<\/a> calendar and moved up their primary dates. The DNC vowed to not seat delegates from those states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">But <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> now wants the delegates from those states to be seated, and she\u2019s using the votes in those contests to argue that she\u2019s winning the popular vote. <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> called that \u201clunacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThis is what I\u2019m talking about with the <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> campaign,\u201d he said. \u201cAll of the sudden the presidency is slipping away, and they\u2019ll do anything to keep that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> was also quick to point out that Obama didn\u2019t appear on the ballot in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Michigan<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> because their delegates weren\u2019t supposed to be counted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The fight over <st1:state st=\"on\">Michigan<\/st1:state> and <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Florida<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> is a difficult problem for the Democratic Party. It\u2019s trying to control the primary process, but not seating delegates from those states could discourage voters in two important states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Carville rightly accused Obama of dodging additional debates in <st1:state st=\"on\">North Carolina<\/st1:state> and <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Indiana<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>. <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> defended Obama by saying the 20 debates that have been held are enough.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIt\u2019s not as if one more debate is going to make a terrible bit of difference,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> frequently said <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> can\u2019t win the primary race, but he also said she should not drop out at this point. He said voters in the remaining states should get to vote, and then, after June 3, it will be clear \u2013 as he said it already is \u2013 that she can\u2019t win. He said at that point, Democrats should unite behind Obama.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThe worst thing we can do is continue this negativity, this backbiting,\u201d he said. \u201c\u2026 the ending is fairly clear.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">It should be pointed out that <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> is repeatedly complaining about the negativity in the race, but he engaged in it, to some degree, during the Wednesday show.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">You can watch highlights from the exchange by clicking <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/video\/#\/video\/politics\/2008\/04\/23\/lkl.highlights.cnn\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gov.
