{"id":31125,"date":"2011-08-15T11:07:47","date_gmt":"2011-08-15T17:07:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/?p=31125"},"modified":"2011-10-08T21:42:59","modified_gmt":"2011-10-09T03:42:59","slug":"diaz-enters-cruces-city-council-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2011\/08\/diaz-enters-cruces-city-council-race\/","title":{"rendered":"Diaz enters Cruces City Council race"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_31126\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignright\" style=\"max-width: 120px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-31126\" title=\"Diaz, Aaron Henry\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/Diaz-Aaron-Henry.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Aaron Henry Diaz<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/aaronhenrydiaz.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Aaron Henry Diaz<\/a> has announced his candidacy for the District 4 seat on the Las Cruces City Council, which is currently held by <a href=\"http:\/\/las-cruces.org\/Government\/Legislative\/City%20Council\/District%204.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Nathan Small<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Diaz, who is 24 and involved in small business consulting and construction, said public safety, economic opportunities and government responsibility are his top priorities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs I walk District 4, meeting with my neighbors, it has become clear that our district has been ignored for too long,\u201d Diaz said in a news release. \u201cWe have a simple message: \u2018Don\u2019t ignore District 4.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Diaz said public safety has been \u201cshelved as a second or third priority behind special projects by current City Councilor Small and other special interest groups that have influenced some members of the city council.\u201d He wants to increase public safety funding and said \u201cpet\u201d projects must be stopped.<\/p>\n<p>He also said he wants to address a lack of adequate road maintenance and codes enforcement in District 4.<\/p>\n<p>Diaz is a seventh-generation Las Crucen. He said he wants to make the city friendlier for businesses to increase employment opportunities that will help keep the city\u2019s young people here. He said that would also increase the tax base and \u201chelp grow and sustain municipal necessities.\u201d<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Diaz, an active Republican, has <a href=\"http:\/\/newmexicopolitico.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">blogged on New Mexico politics<\/a> since he was 17. He said he\u2019s been active in local politics since he was 12.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am excited to reach out to my district, working with different people from all backgrounds in protecting Las Cruces\u2019 cultural identity while promoting a better quality of life for newcomers and locals,\u201d Diaz said. \u201cI want to serve my friends, family and neighbors, and it will be honor to do so in my hometown of Las Cruces.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Las Cruces Sun-News <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcsun-news.com\/ci_18679211%20former\" target=\"_blank\">reported this weekend<\/a> that former military member Ryan Dailey is also seeking the District 4 seat.
