Some in this community will think that, but I believe you get what you pay for, and <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> hasn\u2019t traditionally spent enough on education.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Diaz will be paid a base salary of $160,000 annually, plus benefits. <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> is the second largest school district in the state, with about 24,000 students.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Here are some other salaries:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u2022 Albuquerque Public Schools Superintendent Elizabeth Everitt is paid an annual base salary of $175,000, according to the Albuquerque Journal. There are about 90,000 students in the largest school district in the state.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u2022 The <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Gallup-McKinley<\/st1:placename>  <st1:placetype st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placetype> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">School   District<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> pays its superintendent, Karen White, $128,000 per year, according to the Journal. With 13,000 students, it\u2019s the sixth-largest district in the state.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u2022 The superintendent of the <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">El Paso<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">Independent<\/st1:placename>  <st1:placetype st=\"on\">School District<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> makes an annual base salary of $215,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u2022 New Mexico State University President Michael Martin was paid $281,187.50 this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u2022 Gov. Bill Richardson\u2019s salary is $110,000 this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u2022 <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">U.S.<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> senators and representatives make an annual salary of $158,100.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u2022 District Attorney Susana Martinez is paid an annual salary of $96,711.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u2022 Las Cruces City Manager Terrence Moore is paid an annual salary of $120,000.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Following the approval last night of Las Cruces Public Schools Superintendent Sonia Diaz\u2019s contract, I thought it might be interesting to compare her salary with others.
