\"\"<\/a>Don Wiviott<\/a> topped all Third Congressional District candidates in fundraising during the first three months of 2008, but Ben R. Luj\u00e1n<\/a> also raised an impressive amount, and the fundraising total of Benny Shendo Jr.<\/a> was respectable. <\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Wiviott, according to the report<\/a> he filed today with the Federal Election Commission, raised $676,980 – $109,504 of it from individual contributors and $565,000 a loan he gave his campaign. He spent $540,315, and began the second quarter of the year with $433,375 on hand.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cI have been touched by the outpouring of support from New Mexicans who believe in our campaign and want to join us in this important effort to bring change to Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>,\u201d the Democrat said in a news release. \u201cPeople recognize the stakes are high in this election and that it is time to start working together to produce the results we need to move our country forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Luj\u00e1n, according to the report<\/a> he filed today, raised $328,740 – $296,140 from individuals and $32,600 from political action committees. The Democrat spent $147,316, leaving him with $271,920 in the bank on April 1.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cThese fundraising totals show strong grassroots support from the people of Congressional District 3,\u201d Luj\u00e1n said in a release. \u201cI am committed to running a viable and passionate campaign that will advocate ending the war in Iraq<\/st1:country-region>, providing universal health coverage and making America<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> energy independent. I will continue to stand up for the people of New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Shendo, according to the report<\/a> he filed, raised $113,626 \u2013 all of it from individuals \u2013 and spent $34,125. The Democrat began the second quarter of the year with $79,490 in the bank.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Republican CD3 candidate Daniel East<\/a> filed a report<\/a> that indicates he raised $34,406 \u2013 $33,406 from individuals and $1,000 from political action committees \u2013 and spent $18,171. He began the second quarter of the year with $16,235 on hand.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Democrat Jon Adams<\/a> filed a report<\/a> indicating that he raised $31,414 \u2013 $17,374 from individuals and $14,040 a loan he gave his own campaign. He spent $34,521 and had $12,279 in the bank on April 1.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

The other candidates in the CD3 race \u2013 Democrats Rudy Martin<\/a> and Harry Montoya<\/a> and Republican Marco Gonzales<\/a> \u2013 have not yet filed reports. They must file by midnight.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
