Another GOP candidate, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.earlgreer.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">C. Earl Greer<\/a>, raised just under $40,000 during the fundraising quarter, including a loan of almost $28,000 that he made to his own campaign.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In addition to the loan, Tinsley raised $98,903 from individuals and $10,000 from political action committees, bringing the total raised to $308,903, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/query.nictusa.com\/cgi-bin\/dcdev\/forms\/C00441394\/332603\/\" target=\"_blank\">the report<\/a> he filed today with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fec.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Federal Election Commission<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Tinsley spent $167,702, and began the second quarter of the year with $425,090 in the bank. That\u2019s because he raised $304,000 and spent about $16,000 during the fourth quarter of 2007.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SAThQGLiVYI\/AAAAAAAAFdw\/533yVb9tftk\/s1600-h\/Greer,+Earl.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/SAThQGLiVYI\/AAAAAAAAFdw\/533yVb9tftk\/s200\/Greer,+Earl.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5189520337290810754\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Greer raised $12,000 from individuals during the first quarter of the year \u2013 his first in the race \u2013 and loaned his campaign $27,871, for total fundraising of $39,871. He spent $9,191, leaving him with $30,679 in the bank on April 1, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/query.nictusa.com\/cgi-bin\/dcdev\/forms\/C00444281\/332195\/\" target=\"_blank\">the report<\/a> he filed Monday with the FEC.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Financially, Tinsley was well ahead of the other candidates in the race at the start of April. Republican <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montyforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Monty Newman<\/a> raised $295,200 during the quarter and ended it with $206,293 in the bank. Republican <a href=\"http:\/\/aubreydunn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Aubrey Dunn Jr.<\/a> raised $106,598 during the quarter and ended it with $287,148 on hand. You can read Newman\u2019s report by clicking <a href=\"http:\/\/herndon1.sdrdc.com\/cgi-bin\/cancomsrs\/?_08+H8NM02073\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> and Dunn\u2019s report <a href=\"http:\/\/query.nictusa.com\/cgi-bin\/dcdev\/forms\/C00442574\/332204\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shortbaldhonest.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Greg Sowards<\/a> is the only Republican CD2 candidate who hasn\u2019t yet filed his first-quarter report that is due today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Update, 4:40 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In a news release, the Greer campaign said he is \u201cpracticing what he preaches when it comes to spending money on his congressional campaign,\u201d noting that he spent less than $10,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIt\u2019s an indication that a grassroots movement can take hold,\u201d Greer said. \u201cIt\u2019s not about money; it\u2019s about the message. My heart is in this district and my roots run deep here, and voters know I won\u2019t kowtow to special-interest groups or big money.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Greer\u2019s communications director, Timera Woodell Drake, said his opponents have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars, \u201cand what do they have to show for it but a couple of questionable polls? How much bang are they really getting for their buck?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIn this election, money is not an indicator of success,\u201d Greer said. \u201cWe came in second at the preprimary nominating convention, and only seven votes separated me from the winner. Even the push polls show me right in the middle of the fray. Money is obviously not a factor, and trying to buy the district with $325,000 in television ads isn\u2019t going to get you much in this year\u2019s election. I\u2019ve done what I\u2019ve done by making the same fiscally responsible decisions that I will in Congress.
