It\u2019s the latest in a string of back-and-forth exchanges between the governor and the <st1:city st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:City> campaign that has kept <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> in the national news since he endorsed Obama on March 21.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The newest exchange began late Wednesday when <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.abcnews.com\/politicalradar\/2008\/04\/candidate-clint.html\" target=\"_blank\">ABC News\u2019 George Stephanopoulos<\/a>, the former communications director in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bill_clinton\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Clinton\u2019s<\/a> administration, reported on the conversation <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> had with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hillaryclinton.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hillary Clinton<\/a> when he told her he was endorsing Obama.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> has said the conversation was heated, but neither has publicly revealed details. Stephanopoulos quoted \u201csources with direct knowledge of the conversation\u201d as saying <st1:city st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:city> told <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> that Obama \u201ccannot win, Bill. He cannot win.\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> disagreed, according to the sources.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Stephanopoulos also quoted \u201ca source with direct knowledge of <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city>\u2019s conversations with the <st1:city st=\"on\">Clintons<\/st1:city>\u201d who claimed that <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> told both Bill and Hillary Clinton earlier this year that he wouldn\u2019t endorse Obama because he didn\u2019t think he could win.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cToo inexperienced,\u201d is how the source said <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> characterized Obama, according to Stephanopoulos.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">That has led to a number of news outlets, including <a href=\"http:\/\/tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com\/2008\/04\/top_hillary_adviser_richardson.php\" target=\"_blank\">Talking Points Memo<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/thepage.time.com\/comment-from-clinton-associate\/\" target=\"_blank\">Time Magazine<\/a>, quoting people close to the <st1:city st=\"on\">Clintons<\/st1:city> as claiming <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said Obama could not win.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> has already <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2008\/04\/controversy-over-guvs-endorsement.html\">repeatedly denied<\/a> telling the <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Clintons<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> that he would not endorse Obama, though Bill Clinton has claimed otherwise. In a statement provided to me, <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> spokesman Pahl Shipley also said the governor \u201chas never questioned Senator Obama\u2019s electability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cHe believes Barack Obama is the right person to lead this country and he will be <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">America<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>\u2019s next president,\u201d Shipley said. \u201cIn fact, the governor endorsed Senator Obama based on his ability to bring this country together both domestically and internationally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThe governor wants to move beyond this he said-she said nonsense,\u201d Shipley said. \u201cIt\u2019s irrelevant and petty. The focus should be on ending the war in <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Iraq<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>, improving the economy and passing universal health care, which is exactly what Senator Obama is talking about.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gov.
