Bill Richardson plans to name Michael Murphy the new children\u2019s court judge in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:city><\/st1:place>.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Several sources confirmed that <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> has chosen Murphy over Rusty Babington and Fernando Macias.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Do\u00f1a Ana County Democratic Party\u2019s central committee will also name Murphy at tonight\u2019s meeting its candidate for the seat in the November general election. The <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placetype st=\"on\">county<\/st1:placetype>  <st1:placename st=\"on\">Republican Party<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place> is still considering whether to run a candidate in that election.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">An influential group of Democrats pushed for the selection of Macias, who has practiced little law in the past decade but has a unique r\u00e9sum\u00e9 and has been lobbying heavily for the position. Macias, who made a failed bid to be appointed to the Mesilla Board of Trustees earlier this year, has been looking to get back into politics in recent months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Sources say <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> carefully considered criticism of the controversial Macias, who is a former state senator and <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Do\u00f1a<\/st1:placename>  <st1:placename st=\"on\">Ana<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place> manager, before making his decision.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Controversies during Macias\u2019 tenure as county manager included elections snafus, his own contested reelection, and the arrest of the <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Sunland<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">Park<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> mayor in the late 1990s for violating a county ordinance that was approved at an illegal meeting for the purpose of stopping the city from building a water line. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Murphy is a longtime <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las   Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> attorney considered an expert in domestic relations.
