{"id":30446,"date":"2011-07-01T08:39:34","date_gmt":"2011-07-01T14:39:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/?p=30446"},"modified":"2011-07-01T08:39:40","modified_gmt":"2011-07-01T14:39:40","slug":"wilson-heinrich-lead-in-senate-primaries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2011\/07\/wilson-heinrich-lead-in-senate-primaries\/","title":{"rendered":"Wilson, Heinrich lead in Senate primaries"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_10937\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignright\" style=\"max-width: 270px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-10937 \" title=\"US Capitol\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/US-Capitol-300x237.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"270\" height=\"213\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/US-Capitol-300x237.jpg 300w, https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/US-Capitol.jpg 325w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 270px) 100vw, 270px\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">The U.S. Capitol building (Photo by Heath Haussamen)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A new poll finds Republican <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heatherwilson.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Heather Wilson<\/a> and Democrat <a href=\"http:\/\/martinheinrich.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Martin Heinrich<\/a> leading in their respective primaries for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by <a href=\"http:\/\/bingaman.senate.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jeff Bingaman<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Wilson had the support of 52 percent of Republicans surveyed to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sanchezforussenate.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">John Sanchez\u2019s<\/a> 24 percent, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shortbaldhonest.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Greg Sowards\u2019<\/a> 8 percent and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billenglish4senate.org\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\">Bill English\u2019s<\/a> 4 percent. Heinrich had the support of 47 percent of Democrats surveyed to <a href=\"http:\/\/hectorbalderas.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hector Balderas\u2019<\/a> 24 percent.<\/p>\n<p>The poll, from the left-leaning group Public Policy Polling, left out little-known Democratic candidate Andres Valdez, though it didn\u2019t leave out equally little-known Republican English.<\/p>\n<p>The polls of 400 \u201cusual\u201d Republican and 400 \u201cusual\u201d Democratic voters were conducted from June 23-26. Each has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.<\/p>\n<p>Read the poll memo <a href=\"http:\/\/www.publicpolicypolling.com\/pdf\/PPP_Release_NM_630930.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The bottom line for the Democrats, from the poll memo:<!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cAlthough Heinrich is weaker among Hispanics, who make up 46% of the Democratic primary electorate, he still leads Balderas 39-36. However, since a majority of Democratic voters are still unwilling to give an opinion of Balderas, Balderas has more room to grow.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And on the Republican side:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWilson leads by strong margins across the Republican ideological spectrum.
