{"id":3026,"date":"2008-03-26T11:45:00","date_gmt":"2008-03-26T17:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/03\/sowards-explains-decision-to-stay-in-cd2-race\/"},"modified":"2008-03-26T11:45:00","modified_gmt":"2008-03-26T17:45:00","slug":"sowards-explains-decision-to-stay-in-cd2-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/03\/sowards-explains-decision-to-stay-in-cd2-race\/","title":{"rendered":"Sowards explains decision to stay in CD2 race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R-qL7YV6L9I\/AAAAAAAAFUw\/M3ASQHmnfVY\/s1600-h\/Sowards,+Greg.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R-qL7YV6L9I\/AAAAAAAAFUw\/M3ASQHmnfVY\/s200\/Sowards,+Greg.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5182108173506064338\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Though he secured the votes of only two delegates, or about 1 percent, at the Republican Party\u2019s March 15 preprimary nominating convention, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shortbaldhonest.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Greg Sowards<\/a> said he\u2019s staying in the Second Congressional District race because he\u2019s different than the other candidates.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI\u2019m running on a platform of conservative core principles and not party politics,\u201d Sowards said in a news release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Sowards filed on Tuesday additional signatures in an attempt to stay in the race. The Secretary of State\u2019s Office has until next Tuesday to certify his candidacy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The release states that the \u201cfiercely independent\u201d Sowards is in a race that is \u201ccrowded with party regulars\u201d and is running on \u201cthe strength of fellow citizens who share his vision for the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIn the past, we have sent decent people to <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> only to be disappointed when they trade their allegiance to their constituents for that of other members of Congress,\u201d Sowards said. \u201cI promise to always represent the interests of the people of the Second District and be responsive to their needs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Sowards said there is \u201cgrowing dissatisfaction with the partisanship in Congress that accomplishes little for the people who send them there.\u201d He pledged, if elected, to work to reverse the growth of the federal government, cut taxes and reduce regulation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cRaising a family, owning a business and wearing the uniform of my country prepared me to bring a perspective to <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> that the professional politicians have forgotten,\u201d Sowards said. \u201cThe problems we have at the national level have their roots at the local level and (in) the process that winnows out those who would actually make a difference in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> and be the kind of representative voters want and so desperately need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Sowards will be competing with four other Republicans for the party\u2019s nomination.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Though he secured the votes of only two delegates, or about 1 percent, at the Republican Party\u2019s March 15 preprimary nominating convention, Greg Sowards said he\u2019s staying in the Second Congressional District race because he\u2019s different than the other candidates. \u201cI\u2019m running on a platform of conservative core principles and not party politics,\u201d Sowards said [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-3026","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3026","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=3026"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3026\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=3026"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=3026"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=3026"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
