{"id":3021,"date":"2008-03-25T17:36:00","date_gmt":"2008-03-25T23:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/03\/congressional-candidates-try-to-stay-on-ballot\/"},"modified":"2008-03-25T17:36:00","modified_gmt":"2008-03-25T23:36:00","slug":"congressional-candidates-try-to-stay-on-ballot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/03\/congressional-candidates-try-to-stay-on-ballot\/","title":{"rendered":"Congressional candidates try to stay on ballot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nine congressional candidates who failed to secure 20 percent of the vote at preprimary nominating conventions 10 days ago filed signatures today to try to stay in the races.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Only three candidates who failed to received 20 percent \u2013 Second Congressional District candidates <a href=\"http:\/\/www.terrymarquardt.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Terry Marquardt<\/a>, a Republican, and Democrats <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kisslingforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Al Kissling<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.frankmckinnonforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Frank McKinnon<\/a> \u2013 aren\u2019t trying to stay in the races.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">James Flores, spokesman for the Secretary of State\u2019s Office, said the office doesn\u2019t have to certify the signatures that were submitted today until Tuesday, but here are the candidates who filed signatures to try to stay in the races:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u2022 In the Second Congressional District, Republicans <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montyforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Monty Newman<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shortbaldhonest.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Greg Sowards<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u2022 In the First Congressional District, Democrats <a href=\"http:\/\/robertpidcockforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Robert Pidcock<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rebeccaforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rebecca Vigil-Giron<\/a> and Republican <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peopleforjoe.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Joe Carraro<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u2022 In the Third Congressional District, Democrats <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jonadamsforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jon Adams<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/rudymartinforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rudy Martin<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montoyaforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Harry Montoya<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bennyshendojr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Benny Shendo Jr.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">For my list of the 2008 candidates for federal offices, click <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2007\/11\/2008-list-of-nm-candidates-for-federal.html\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Update, 5:45 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R-mOW4V6L1I\/AAAAAAAAFTw\/w8wj1JrqMJg\/s1600-h\/Montoya,+Harry.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R-mOW4V6L1I\/AAAAAAAAFTw\/w8wj1JrqMJg\/s200\/Montoya,+Harry.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5181829369999011666\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Montoya just put out a news release announcing that he\u2019s staying on the ballot. It states that he submitted more than 3,000 signatures today \u2013 far more than he needed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI really want to thank all my volunteers and supporters who spent countless hours helping me collect signatures to qualify for the ballot,\u201d he said in the release. \u201cIt truly is an honor to have such a wonderful and dedicated group of people behind me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Montoya said he was required to submit just over 1,500 signatures, but wanted to ensure there was no question that he would be on the ballot. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI am in this race because there is so much at stake,\u201d Montoya said. \u201c\u2026 We have monumental choices to make in our country this year.
