{"id":3009,"date":"2008-03-19T11:03:00","date_gmt":"2008-03-19T17:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/03\/rush-announces-candidacy-for-state-house-seat\/"},"modified":"2008-03-19T11:03:00","modified_gmt":"2008-03-19T17:03:00","slug":"rush-announces-candidacy-for-state-house-seat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/03\/rush-announces-candidacy-for-state-house-seat\/","title":{"rendered":"Rush announces candidacy for state House seat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R-FHdmametI\/AAAAAAAAFSQ\/wKaFHvAbKCc\/s1600-h\/Rush,+Matt.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R-FHdmametI\/AAAAAAAAFSQ\/wKaFHvAbKCc\/s200\/Rush,+Matt.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5179499620306680530\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Well-known <st1:place st=\"on\">Roosevelt<\/st1:place> county resident and fourth-generation New Mexican Matt Rush has declared his candidacy for state House of Representatives <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/DistrictMaps\/2002HouseDistricts\/House63.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">District 63<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThere is no story I enjoy to tell more than the story of <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> agriculture,\u201d Rush, a Republican, said in a news release. \u201cAfter a lifetime of service and leadership within the American farm and ranch community, the time is now right for me to serve the people of <st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state> in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Rush\u2019s family homesteaded in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Roosevelt<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> during the early 1900s, and Rush continues the farming and ranching tradition of his great-great-grandfather. To support his farming and ranching operation, Rush travels the country as a professional speaker, conducting leadership and motivational seminars.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">He has represented American agriculture in <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Germany<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> as part of an agricultural exchange program, currently serves on the Berea Children\u2019s Home Board of Directors, the Washington, D.C.-based Foundation for Agriculture Board of Directors and is president of the Roosevelt County Farm &amp; Livestock Bureau.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Rush said he is concerned with the quality of representation rural <st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state> is receiving in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cSoutheast New Mexico needs a leader that hasn\u2019t forgotten what the values of rural <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> are and someone with the dedication to make real changes in this state,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Rush also said he intends to work hard to ensure New Mexico becomes more family friendly by supporting a reduction in taxes, traditional marriage, securing the permanent fund for education and revamping the highway department. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI know what it\u2019s like to feel forgotten by <st1:city st=\"on\">Santa  Fe<\/st1:city> in rural <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>.
