{"id":3008,"date":"2008-03-19T09:38:00","date_gmt":"2008-03-19T15:38:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/03\/blair-announces-candidacy-for-abq-area-senate-seat\/"},"modified":"2008-03-19T09:38:00","modified_gmt":"2008-03-19T15:38:00","slug":"blair-announces-candidacy-for-abq-area-senate-seat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/03\/blair-announces-candidacy-for-abq-area-senate-seat\/","title":{"rendered":"Blair announces candidacy for ABQ-area Senate seat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R-EzhmamesI\/AAAAAAAAFSI\/oHHr0Bb2lX8\/s1600-h\/Blair,+John.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R-EzhmamesI\/AAAAAAAAFSI\/oHHr0Bb2lX8\/s200\/Blair,+John.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5179477698793601730\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.johnblair.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">John Blair<\/a>, Democratic candidate for state Senate District 15, yesterday submitted more than 2,000 signatures with his declaration of candidacy at the Bernalillo County Clerk\u2019s Office.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cVoters are hungry for new leadership and fresh ideas in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>,\u201d Blair said in a news release announcing his candidacy. \u201cThe overwhelming support we received in the district shows that Democrats are behind us and will give us the edge in June.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Blair was only required to submit 69 signatures, but said he has walked more than 125 miles to talk with voters about their concerns and his goals and gather signatures. His campaign has knocked on more than 3,200 doors in the district, with Blair personally knocking on more than 2,200, the release states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Blair estimates that he\u2019ll need 2,500 votes to win the primary, and he\u2019s excited by the early response to his \u201cmessage of change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIt has been hard work, but time very well spent getting to know everyone I can in the district,\u201d he said. \u201cVoters realize that if the right people are elected to the state Senate, we can really make some progress on crucial issues like bringing down the cost of health care and prescription drugs, strengthening our economy and creating high-wage jobs, and developing new sources of energy for a cleaner environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Blair previously served as a legislative aide to U.S. Sen. Jeff Bingaman, chief of staff for state Auditor Hector Balderas and as a law clerk for state Supreme Court Justice Edward L. Chavez.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">He has been active in many community organizations in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Blair will face Democrat <a href=\"http:\/\/eichenbergfornewmexico.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tim Eichenberg<\/a> in the primary. The winner will face Republican Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=289&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">H.
