Gutierrez announces re-election bid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R9_MNGamekI\/AAAAAAAAFRI\/xBkndIycZRA\/s1600-h\/Gutierrez,+Joni.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R9_MNGamekI\/AAAAAAAAFRI\/xBkndIycZRA\/s200\/Gutierrez,+Joni.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5179082621931911746\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>State Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=316&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Joni Marie Gutierrez<\/a>, D-Mesilla, has announced that she will seek a third term as the representative of <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/DistrictMaps\/2002HouseDistricts\/House33.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">District 33<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Gutierrez said in a news release that she wants to continue her service to improve the quality of life for constituents in communities stretching from Fairacres through west <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las   Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> to Mesilla and San Miguel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI have been an advocate for families facing mental health challenges, for conservation of our environment and for consumer protection,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Gutierrez said she has targeted funds toward eliminating the city sewage treatment plant\u2019s smell that has branded <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> as \u201cstink town.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIt is my goal to keep after that problem until it is totally solved,\u201d she said. \u201cThrough my neighborhood meetings and other contacts with constituents, I know their priorities and I share their goals of keeping their communities unique while enhancing their opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Gutierrez successfully introduced legislation to enhance recreational opportunities by reducing liability obstacles so multi-use trails could be established on major irrigation rights-of-way. She is now teaming with Las Cruces City Councilor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/council\/district4.shtm\" target=\"_blank\">Nathan Small<\/a> to develop a master plan for <st1:street st=\"on\"><st1:address st=\"on\">Valley   Drive<\/st1:address><\/st1:street> that will explore paths, lighting, landscaping and other amenities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201c<st1:street st=\"on\"><st1:address st=\"on\">Valley Drive<\/st1:address><\/st1:street> is the major north\/south corridor of west <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las   Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>,\u201d Gutierrez said, \u201cand it should be a showcase for the beauty of the valley.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">She also secured funds for a master plan for the community of San Miguel. Gutierrez said she has a strong commitment to protecting farms, farmland and water rights.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Gutierrez secured funding for community projects including drainage and flood control, roads, the local Court Appointed Special Advocate program, Community Action Agency, parks and cultural opportunities including the \u201cWe are Enron\u201d play premiere at NMSU.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">She also successfully sponsored a consumer protection bill to require that gift cards retain their full value for five years to thwart the common practice of negating or reducing values of gift cards if not used in shorter periods of time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Gutierrez currently serves on the House Appropriations Committee and the House Energy and Natural Resources Committee.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>She also serves on the Health and Human Services Interim Committee.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cMy district has the gems of our community, from the pecan farms to downtown,\u201d Gutierrez said. \u201cI want to continue to make my district even better.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>State Rep.
