When over 1,500 voters say \u2018We want you to run,\u2019 you have to listen. My record in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Hobbs<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> and my sincere conservative message is resonating loud and clear.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a href=\"http:\/\/aubreydunn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Aubrey Dunn Jr.<\/a> won Saturday\u2019s contest with the support of 40 delegates, or 30 percent. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.earlgreer.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">C. Earl Greer<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edtinsleyforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ed Tinsley<\/a> each qualified for the ballot with 33 votes, or 24 percent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Newman fell two votes short of qualifying, getting 25 votes, or 18.5 percent. He\u2019ll need to submit the signatures of 804 registered Republicans living in the Second Congressional District by March 25 to appear on the June ballot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Newman\u2019s campaign claimed in the news release that he \u201cexceeded all expectations\u201d at the convention, and revealed publicly for the first time that he has raised almost $200,000 for the race, \u201cwith most of the funds coming from registered voters within <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>. This is in stark contrast to his two major opponents who have relied upon self-funding and out-of-state special interests to finance their campaigns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe\u2019ve only been in the race for a few weeks,\u201d Newman said. \u201cAnd most of my opponents were predicting slam-dunk runaway victories. That didn\u2019t happen. We finished just eight votes behind candidates who have been campaigning for nearly six years for this seat and just two votes shy of the 20-percent mark. My campaign just started reaching out to delegates 10 days ago.  Such a strong showing makes me confident in our campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI have never lost an election,\u201d said Newman, the <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Hobbs<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> mayor. \u201cWhen voters see who I am, they realize that my values and beliefs are deeply rooted and do not sway with the wind. In the end, voters want a leader who will not bend to the polls and say anything to get elected.
