Luj\u00e1n<\/a> won just over 40 percent of the vote in a six-way race today in the Third Congressional District Democratic preprimary contest, while <a href=\"http:\/\/donfornewmexico.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Don Wiviott<\/a> also qualified for the ballot with just under 30 percent of the vote.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">No other candidate reached the 20-percent threshold.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Luj\u00e1n had 40.2 percent of the vote to Wiviott\u2019s 29.6 percent. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bennyshendojr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Benny Shendo Jr.<\/a> came in third with 16.4 percent of the vote, while <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montoyaforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Harry Montoya<\/a> had almost 11 percent, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jonadamsforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jon Adams<\/a> had just over 2 percent and <a href=\"http:\/\/rudymartinforcongress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rudy Martin<\/a> had less than 1 percent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Update, 3:55 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In a news release, Wiviott campaign spokeswoman Caroline Buerkle said Wiviott\u2019s support shows that his message \u201cis clearly resonating with voters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIt is remarkable how far this campaign has come,\u201d she said. \u201cDon started out with no name ID, no political network and none of the advantages of a political insider. Just a few months later, he shocked the establishment by not only getting on the ballot, but by running neck-and-neck with those who started with far more in their favor. Don\u2019s strong showing is a testament to his progressive vision and voters\u2019 desire for change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Update, March 16, 7:45 a.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Luj\u00e1n said in a news release that he is \u201cgrateful and honored by the support delegates have shown for our campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cSaturday\u2019s victory and Friday\u2019s endorsement by the League of Conservation Voters puts momentum on our side, and we will work 1 percent at a time to secure victory in June,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThis is a great showing, and along with the LCV endorsement, we clearly have the momentum going forward,\u201d said Luj\u00e1n\u2019s campaign manager, Carlos Trujillo. \u201cWe will keep working to let voters know about (Public Regulation) Commissioner Luj\u00e1n\u2019s record of leadership on renewable energy, of holding insurance companies and big corporations accountable and of standing up for <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> consumers.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ben R.
