Antonio &quot;Moe&quot; Maestas, D-Albuquerque (Photo by Heath Haussamen)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>State Rep.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/lcs\/legdetails.aspx?SPONCODE=HMAES\" target=\"_blank\">Antonio \u201cMoe\u201d Maestas<\/a>, D-Albuquerque, has decided he will seek re-election rather than running for the U.S. House seat being vacated by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heinrich.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Martin Heinrich<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact that there is an outstanding candidate in the race, Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/griegoforcongress.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Eric Griego<\/a>, and other great Democrats preparing to announce their candidacies made this decision easier for me,\u201d Maestas said in a news release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u00a0commit to\u00a0work hard for the Democratic nominee, whoever\u00a0it is, and I\u00a0am confident that this congressional seat will be won by a Democrat,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He didn\u2019t name the \u201cother great Democrats\u201d who are preparing to announce their candidacies. Former Lt. Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Diane_Denish\" target=\"_blank\">Diane Denish<\/a> and former Albuquerque Mayor <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Martin_Ch%C3%A1vez\" target=\"_blank\">Martin Ch\u00e1vez<\/a> are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2011\/04\/denish-chavez-consider-running-for-u-s-house-seat\/\" target=\"_blank\">considering entering the race<\/a>. So is Terry Brunner, U.S. Sen.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bingaman.senate.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jeff Bingaman\u2019s<\/a> former state director who now heads USDA Rural Development in New Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>Griego is, thus far, the only declared Democratic candidate.<\/p>\n<p>On the Republican side, Albuquerque City Councilor\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.danlewis2012.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dan Lewis<\/a> has\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2011\/04\/lewis-formally-enters-congressional-race\/\" target=\"_blank\">entered the race<\/a>, and\u00a0former gubernatorial candidate and state Rep.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.janice2012.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Janice Arnold-Jones<\/a> of Albuquerque has\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2011\/03\/arnold-jones-forms-congressional-exploratory-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\">formed an exploratory committee<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>State Rep.
