{"id":2979,"date":"2008-03-14T15:43:00","date_gmt":"2008-03-14T21:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/03\/governors-office-report-criticizes-dot-projects\/"},"modified":"2008-03-14T15:43:00","modified_gmt":"2008-03-14T21:43:00","slug":"governors-office-report-criticizes-dot-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/03\/governors-office-report-criticizes-dot-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"Governor&#8217;s Office report criticizes DOT projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Governor\u2019s Office calls the Department of Transportation\u2019s now defunct efforts to redevelop two offices in Santa Fe \u201ca fatally flawed process\u201d in a long-awaited review reported on today by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/news\/state\/293559nm03-14-08.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Albuquerque Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The plans, which the governor halted in the midst of the scandal last fall, \u201csuffered from poor planning and poor decisions,\u201d the report stated, according to the Journal. The report said the DOT lacked the expertise for planning public-private projects, \u201cskirted purchasing rules and made questionable use of state aircraft,\u201d the Journal reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">None of this is news. The Journal has done an excellent job of reporting on this topic and already reported most of what was in the governor\u2019s report. You can find links to many of the newspaper\u2019s articles in my archives on the DOT headquarters project by clicking <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/search\/label\/DOT%20headquarters\">here<\/a>.<br \/> <!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]--><br \/> <!--[endif]--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The short of it: Projects to redevelop the state and district headquarters buildings in Santa Fe were mired in scandal and tied to people who are currently indicted in the Bernalillo County <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/search\/label\/Metro%20Court%20scandal\">Metro Court scandal<\/a> and others who are very close to the governor. No charges have been filed in the DOT case, and it\u2019s not clear how seriously the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office has looked into the DOT situation during its investigation of the metro court situation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">As <a href=\"http:\/\/haussamen.blogspot.com\/2007\/10\/transportation-commissioners-tied-to.html\">I\u2019ve written before<\/a>, it\u2019s nice that the governor cancelled the projects and ordered a thorough review that has led to the new, scathing report, but a truly independent, thorough investigation is needed.
