{"id":2891,"date":"2008-02-18T17:32:00","date_gmt":"2008-02-18T23:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/02\/auditor-shares-ethics-ideas-with-czech-delegation\/"},"modified":"2008-02-18T17:32:00","modified_gmt":"2008-02-18T23:32:00","slug":"auditor-shares-ethics-ideas-with-czech-delegation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/02\/auditor-shares-ethics-ideas-with-czech-delegation\/","title":{"rendered":"Auditor shares ethics ideas with Czech delegation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R7oWzXrNjrI\/AAAAAAAAE_Q\/RdzMmweaoog\/s1600-h\/0218.Balderas.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R7oWzXrNjrI\/AAAAAAAAE_Q\/RdzMmweaoog\/s1600\/0218.Balderas.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5168468594145463986\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>State Auditor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.saonm.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hector Balderas<\/a> was the only <st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state> elected official to meet on Friday with a delegation from the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Czech_republic\" target=\"_blank\">Czech Republic<\/a> that is in <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">America<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> to exchange ideas about transparency and ethics in democracy.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The U.S. State Department\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/exchanges.state.gov\/education\/ivp\/\" target=\"_blank\">International Visitor Leadership Program<\/a> is what brought the delegation of high-level prosecutors, law enforcement officers and directors of non-governmental organizations to <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> and other states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIt is an honor to meet representatives from the <st1:country-region st=\"on\">Czech Republic<\/st1:country-region> to exchange knowledge and ideas about ethics in government,\u201d Balderas said in a news release after meeting with the group in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>. \u201cAs a burgeoning democracy, the <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Czech<\/st1:placename>  <st1:placetype st=\"on\">Republic<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> is undergoing numerous challenges in developing systems for accountability and transparency. I hope our dialogue continues for months and years to come, and that I can be a resource in assisting them with government reform.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The State Department\u2019s goal for the program is to allow others to explore how governments in the <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">United States<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> combat corruption, learn about the role watchdog agencies and other non-governmental organizations play in ensuring transparency, gather ideas for judicial and ethics reform and learn about whistleblower protections.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cAs <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>\u2019s auditor, I continue to face challenges in combating government fraud, waste and abuse,\u201d Balderas said. \u201cResources, innovation and collaboration are the key to ensuring success in governmental accountability.
