Johnson\u2019s campaign posted this photo on Twitter of the banner behind the podium where he announced his candidacy for president earlier today.<\/p><\/div>\n

Former N.M. Gov. Gary Johnson<\/a> formally entered the 2012 presidential race today, saying \u201cAmerica is better than this\u201d and he \u201ccan help fix it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAmerica needs a \u2018President Veto\u2019 right now \u2013 someone who will say \u2018no\u2019 to insane spending and stop the madness that has become Washington,\u201d Johnson said in announcing his candidacy<\/a>. \u201cThat\u2019s why I am here today to announce that I\u2019m running for president of the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n

Johnson, a libertarian-leaning Republican, made his announcement in the all-important primary state of New Hampshire, where he\u2019ll spend the next three days kicking off his campaign.<\/p>\n

The former governor joins a crowded but wide-open GOP primary field in which no frontrunner has emerged. Johnson promised a lot this morning on Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had a Mr Smith moment as Governor of NM, and believe I can do it as President of the USA,\u201d he tweeted. \u201cI love retail politics and I wont be out worked in New Hampshire.\u201d<\/p>\n

Johnson, in a prepared statement, called himself a \u201cfix-it man.\u201d Before he was governor, he said, he started a \u201cone-man fix-it business\u201d that grew into \u201can American dream with more than a thousand employees.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMy formula for success was simple. I showed up on time, did what I said I’d do, and knew what I was doing,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cI did the same thing as governor, exactly. \u2026 Saying no to waste, corruption and political games is easier than you think. During my two terms I vetoed 750 pieces of bad, unnecessary and wasteful legislation, and used the line-item veto to save millions of dollars.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI was called \u2018Governor Veto,\u2019 and accepted that nickname proudly,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Time for \u2018one of our own\u2019<\/h3>\n

Johnson said it\u2019s time to \u201cput one of our own in the White House.\u201d In addition to taking shots at President Barack Obama<\/a>, a Democrat, he had criticism for the other GOP presidential candidates.<\/p>\n

\u201cI look at the rest of the field running for president, and that song by The Who comes to mind,\u201d he said. \u201cMeet the new boss. Same as the old boss. You know the one. We \u2018Won\u2019t Get Fooled Again.\u2019 What’s the definition of insanity? It is to keep doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different outcome.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Twitter, Johnson talked about getting the nation\u2019s finances in order, saying America needs \u201cto fix the fiscal mess. The writing of a financial collapse is on the wall. Balance the federal budget tomorrow.\u201d He talked about smaller government, \u201cmore liberty and personal freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also talked about ending the nation\u2019s wars.<\/p>\n
