Papen announces re-election bid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R7Db4XrNjFI\/AAAAAAAAE6g\/JYOMea4GE8o\/s1600-h\/Papen,+Mary+Kay.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R7Db4XrNjFI\/AAAAAAAAE6g\/JYOMea4GE8o\/s200\/Papen,+Mary+Kay.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5165870534068374610\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>State Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marykaypapen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mary Kay Papen<\/a>, D-Las Cruces, has announced that she is running for re-election this year.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Papen, who represents <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/DistrictMaps\/2002SenateDistricts\/Senate38.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">District 38<\/a>, has served in the Senate since 2000. In a news release, she said she has championed mental health, affordable housing reform, water rights adjudication and education. Papen serves on the interim Water and Natural Resources Committee, the interim Health and Human Services Committee and was recently selected to serve on the Senate Finance Committee.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThe people of Senate District 38 deserve a conscientious advocate and a strong voice in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Santa   Fe<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>. I believe I have been that voice and am eager to keep working hard for my constituents,\u201d Papen said. \u201cI plan to continue the important work I have started on reforming the affordable housing process and seeking more opportunities for District 38 residents.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Papen has also worked to secure funding for infrastructure projects in her district, especially in the colonias. She has been one of the major contributors of capital outlay for the <st1:city st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:city> downtown revitalization project, <st1:placename st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">State<\/st1:placetype> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">University<\/st1:placetype> and various parks and roads throughout <st1:city st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:city> and <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Do\u00f1a<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">Ana<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Papen said fighting for mental-health services for New Mexicans who need them will continue to remain one of her top priorities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>State Sen.
