{"id":2808,"date":"2008-01-31T19:02:00","date_gmt":"2008-02-01T01:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/01\/udall-raises-more-than-wilson-and-pearce-combined\/"},"modified":"2008-01-31T19:02:00","modified_gmt":"2008-02-01T01:02:00","slug":"udall-raises-more-than-wilson-and-pearce-combined","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/01\/udall-raises-more-than-wilson-and-pearce-combined\/","title":{"rendered":"Udall raises more than Wilson and Pearce combined"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R6Jv619XLOI\/AAAAAAAAEu8\/HyWdKRm3DNU\/s1600-h\/Udall,+Tom.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R6Jv619XLOI\/AAAAAAAAEu8\/HyWdKRm3DNU\/s200\/Udall,+Tom.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5161811179627556066\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>U.S. Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.udallforusall.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Udall<\/a> raised more than $1 million for his Senate bid during the fourth quarter of 2007, beating the combined total raised by the two leading Republicans in the race, U.S. Reps. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peopleforpearce.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Pearce<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heatherforsenate.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Heather Wilson<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Udall, the Democratic frontrunner, raised just over $1 million and spent about $118,000 during the quarter, and began 2008 with more than $1.7 million in the bank.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe\u2019re very proud of the strong, statewide support Tom Udall has received, including contributions from each of <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>\u2019s 33 counties,\u201d said Amanda Cooper, Udall\u2019s campaign manager. \u201cTom Udall has a strong record of getting things done for <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>, both as a tough attorney general and a five-term congressman. \u2026 His common-sense solutions to expand health care, improve education and achieve energy independence are what New Mexicans need from their next <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">U.S.<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> senator.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Udall campaign reported that more than 80 percent of his contributions came from individuals, with more than 60 percent of those coming from <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>. More than half of Udall\u2019s individual contributions came from people who gave less than $200.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Udall\u2019s fundraising total \u2013 made even more impressive by the fact that he didn\u2019t start actively raising funds until after Thanksgiving \u2013 is certain to solidify the analysis of a number of national pundits who say this is one of the GOP Senate seats most likely to be taken by Democrats in 2008.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R6Jv7l9XLPI\/AAAAAAAAEvE\/D7GGAJtjZzw\/s1600-h\/Wilson,+Heather.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R6Jv7l9XLPI\/AAAAAAAAEvE\/D7GGAJtjZzw\/s200\/Wilson,+Heather.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5161811192512457970\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> came in second in fundraising for the quarter, raising just under $517,000. She spent just under $194,000 and begins 2008 with almost $1.1 million in the bank. <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s campaign pointed out in its news release that she raised more during the quarter and has more on hand than Pearce.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">According to the release, <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:city><\/st1:place>, as of Dec. 31, has received contributions from 3,417 New Mexicans. That\u2019s 92 percent of her individual contributors. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI\u2019m honored that so many New Mexicans are supporting me in my race for U.S. Senate, believing like I do that we must nominate a commonsense conservative who can win in November,\u201d <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Wilson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R6Jv-19XLQI\/AAAAAAAAEvM\/8aZuc2_TLQ4\/s1600-h\/Pearce,+Steve.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R6Jv-19XLQI\/AAAAAAAAEvM\/8aZuc2_TLQ4\/s200\/Pearce,+Steve.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5161811248347032834\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Pearce reported raising just under $426,000 for the quarter, spending just under $206,000 and having almost $820,000 on hand. Individual donors from <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> were responsible for 92 percent of Pearce\u2019s contributions, according to a news release from his campaign.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The release of Pearce\u2019s fundraising report today was preceded by Wednesday-evening releases announcing that he raised more than $100,000 at a fundraiser in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> on Wednesday and was endorsed by the conservative, Washington-based <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clubforgrowth.org\/2008\/01\/club_pac_endorses_pearce_in_nm.php\" target=\"_blank\">Club for Growth<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe continue to see this same level of enthusiasm across <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>,\u201d said John Billingsley, campaign manager for Pearce\u2019s campaign, following the fundraiser. \u201c\u2026 Particularly here in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>, we are encouraged by the level of support and excitement people are showing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In its endorsement, the Club for Growth touted Pearce\u2019s record of fighting for lower taxes and reduced spending.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cSteve Pearce has been a reliable opponent of tax increases and has demonstrated a willingness to curtail the growth of government,\u201d President Pat Toomey said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">As for the other declared Senate candidates, Democrat <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mothermedia.org\/2008platform.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Leland Lehrman<\/a> has not released fourth-quarter fundraising numbers. Republican <a href=\"http:\/\/www.benavidesforsenate.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Benavides<\/a> didn\u2019t enter the race until early January.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>U.S. Rep.
