\"\"<\/a>Bill Clinton<\/a> said today that his wife Hillary<\/a> is the best-qualified presidential candidate to hit the ground running and deal with the serious problems the nation faces. <\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cIf you want someone with a lifetime of passionate commitment and proven ability to making positive changes in others\u2019 lives\u2026 then she\u2019s your candidate, and it\u2019s not a close question,\u201d he said in a speech at the University<\/st1:placetype> of New Mexico<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place>. \u201cWe don\u2019t have a lot of leeway room. Half the world is mad at us. We have got to get this show on the road.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

With Lt. Gov. Diane Denish<\/a> and Albuquerque Mayor Martin Ch\u00e1vez<\/a> standing side-by-side behind him, Bill Clinton shared his wife\u2019s plans for implementing universal health care, making college more affordable, increasing the use of alternative energy and restoring America<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>\u2019s standing in the world. He said Hillary Clinton is the candidate to help the nation\u2019s struggling economy and rebuild international relationships.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat Hillary wants to say to the world is a simple message \u2013 \u2018America<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place> is back. America<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> is back, and from now on we\u2019re going to cooperate and act alone only when we have to,\u2019\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

An enthusiastic and primarily young crowd packed the Johnson<\/st1:placename> Center<\/st1:placetype><\/st1:place> to hear Bill Clinton speak.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cKnowing what I know about the demands of the presidency and the conditions of the modern world, I would be here for her if asked, even if we weren\u2019t married, because I think she\u2019s the most qualified person I\u2019ve ever had a chance to vote for,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have serious, serious problems here at home, as you know,\u201d Bill Clinton said. \u201c\u2026 She has the right vision of how we can grow and go forward together. \u2026 We have to restore the middle-class dream in America<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place>, and give poor people a chance to work their way into it.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cThis country is growing more unequal in jobs, in incomes, in access to health care and education,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have to do something about that.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

The Iraq<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> war is partly to blame for the nation\u2019s financial problems, Bill Clinton said. It\u2019s also partly responsible for the deterioration of America<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>\u2019s image in the world, but he said there are also other reasons for that.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cPeople are mad at us for getting out of the world\u2019s fight against global warming. They\u2019re mad at us for getting out of the nuclear test-ban treaty,\u201d he said. \u201cThere are very few problems we face that we can solve alone. \u2026 If you want us to go together and you want to save the planet, vote for Hillary.\u201d<\/p>\n

A surprise visit to the Roundhouse<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Before this afternoon\u2019s speech, Bill Clinton made a surprise stop at the Roundhouse in Santa Fe<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>, speaking to a bipartisan group of lawmakers and others in the legislative lounge for about 30 minutes and answering questions about immigration, education and funding for the national labs.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

State Rep. Nate Cote<\/a>, a supporter of Barack Obama<\/a>, said the former president\u2019s answers to the questions were \u201cvery, very knowledgeable and in very good style.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cHe spoke mostly about Hillary\u2019s agenda and he really did not say anything negative about Barack Obama,\u201d Cote<\/st1:place> said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
