{"id":2805,"date":"2008-01-31T13:59:00","date_gmt":"2008-01-31T19:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/01\/kennedy-obama-inspires-and-can-bring-change\/"},"modified":"2008-01-31T13:59:00","modified_gmt":"2008-01-31T19:59:00","slug":"kennedy-obama-inspires-and-can-bring-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/01\/kennedy-obama-inspires-and-can-bring-change\/","title":{"rendered":"Kennedy: Obama inspires and can bring change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R6Io2F9XLLI\/AAAAAAAAEuk\/JND5sIF-FZo\/s1600-h\/Kennedy,+Edward.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R6Io2F9XLLI\/AAAAAAAAEuk\/JND5sIF-FZo\/s200\/Kennedy,+Edward.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5161733032697605298\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/kennedy.senate.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Edward Kennedy<\/a>, D-Mass., said today during a visit to <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barackobama.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Barack Obama<\/a> is the presidential candidate who can inspire uninvolved people to become active in their government.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Kennedy talked about young people and others who haven\u2019t been involved in politics during a stop at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalhispaniccenter.org\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=49&amp;Itemid=206\" target=\"_blank\">National Hispanic Cultural Center<\/a>, and said Obama gives Americans \u201cthe opportunity to have a very unusual candidate\u201d who can change the nation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThere is one person, there is one candidate, there is one individual who has the ability to bring about that enthusiasm, that idealism, that commitment, that kind of spirit, that kind of vision for our country and the world, and his name is Barack Obama,\u201d Kennedy said. \u201cAre you going to be with us for change?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Kennedy said the eyes of the nation will be on states like <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> on Tuesday. He said Obama has done just about all he can, and it is now \u201cup to each and every one of you\u201d to campaign for Obama in the coming days. A boisterous crowd responded enthusiastically to his call to action.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Kennedy talked about <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Iraq<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>, education and health care during his speech.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe can elect a Democratic president that will actually end the war in <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Iraq<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>, and his name is Barack Obama,\u201d he said. \u201c\u2026 We can make sure that the children\u2019s needs are going to be met.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Kennedy said, though he supports Obama, he is \u201cnot against any of the other candidates. If <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hillaryclinton.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hillary Clinton<\/a> is successful, we\u2019ll support her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">He also praised the three highest-ranking Democratic elected officials in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> \u2013 Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/governor.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Richardson<\/a>, U.S. Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/bingaman.senate.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jeff Bingaman<\/a> and U.S. Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tomudall.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Udall<\/a> \u2013 three men who haven\u2019t endorsed either candidate. Kennedy and others have been pushing <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> to endorse Obama, but he\u2019s been pushed to endorse <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> by others.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Kennedy called <st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city> \u201cone of the great public servants of our time,\u201d and pointed out that he campaigned for <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> when he was first elected to Congress in 1982.
