\"\"<\/a>Hillary Clinton\u2019s<\/a> campaign announced its first high-profile endorsements from Do\u00f1a<\/st1:placename> Ana<\/st1:placename> County<\/st1:placename> today, along with endorsements from a number of state lawmakers and others from around New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>.<\/a> <\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

State Sen. Mary Jane Garcia<\/a>, D-Do\u00f1a Ana; state Rep. Mary Helen Garcia<\/a>, D-Las Cruces; DNC Committeewoman Mary Gail Gwaltney; and Second Congressional District candidate Al Kissling<\/a> all endorsed Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> today.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Mary Jane Garcia and Mary Helen Garcia are the first elected officials from the county to endorse Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>, while 10 \u2013 including four state lawmakers \u2013 have endorsed Barack Obama<\/a>. The two women were among the approximately 150 New Mexicans named today to Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s statewide leadership council.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m thrilled to join so many outstanding legislators and community leaders from across the state in announcing our support for Hillary Clinton,\u201d Hillary Clinton\u2019s New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> campaign chair, Lt. Gov. Diane Denish<\/a>, said in a news release. \u201cHillary has dedicated her life to improving the lives of real people. New Mexicans know that Hillary Clinton does not just talk about change, she delivers it. On day one Hillary will be ready to lead.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other legislative endorsements of Clinton announced today include those of state Sens. Carlos Cisneros<\/a> of Questa, Phil Griego<\/a> of San Jose, Lynda Lovejoy<\/a> of Crownpoint, Richard Martinez<\/a> of Espa\u00f1ola, Howie Morales<\/a> of Silver City, Bernadette Sanchez<\/a> and James Taylor<\/a> of Albuquerque and David Ulibarri<\/a> of Grants; and state Reps. Elias Barela<\/a> of Belen, Ray Begaye<\/a> of Shiprock, Ernest Chavez<\/a> of Albuquerque, Dona Irwin<\/a> of Deming, Rhonda King<\/a> of Stanley, Danice Picraux<\/a> of Albuquerque, Debbie Rodella<\/a> of Espa\u00f1ola, Nick Salazar<\/a> of Ohkay Owingeh, Edward Sandoval<\/a> and Mimi Stewart<\/a> of Albuquerque and Luciano \u201cLucky\u201d Varela<\/a> of Santa Fe.<\/p>\n

Other high-profile Clinton endorsements announced today include those of Public Regulation Commission Vice President Sandy Jones<\/a>; Espa\u00f1ola City Councilor Danielle Duran<\/a>; Albuquerque School Board President Paula Maes; Lea County Commissioner Hector Ramirez; former Secretary of State Rebecca Vigil-Giron<\/a>; former state Sens. Emilio Naranjo of Espa\u00f1ola and Anne Riley of Albuquerque; former state Reps. Bennie Aragon, Harriet Ruiz and Raymond Sanchez of Albuquerque and Kandy Cordova of Belen; Former Bernalillo County Commissioner Steve Gallegos; and Ohkay Owingeh Gov. Earl Salazar.<\/p>\n

The Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> and Obama campaigns have been announcing endorsements almost daily for the last week.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, one endorsement that\u2019s up for grabs is that of former state Attorney General Patricia Madrid<\/a>, a John Edwards<\/a> supporter. I spoke with Madrid<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> after Edwards dropped out of the race earlier today, and she said she had been \u201ccrying all morning\u201d over the news of his withdrawal. She was scheduled to be on a conference call with him later today, and said she planned to endorse one of the other candidates later today or tomorrow.<\/p>\n
