Friday; no word on Clinton visit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R53z319XKhI\/AAAAAAAAEpU\/C-9GwoydJ0Q\/s1600-h\/Obama,+Barack.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R53z319XKhI\/AAAAAAAAEpU\/C-9GwoydJ0Q\/s200\/Obama,+Barack.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5160548888739260946\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.barackobama.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Barack Obama<\/a> will visit <st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state> on Friday, with the time and location for a stop in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Santa Fe<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> yet to be announced, and sources tell me to expect <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hillaryclinton.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hillary Clinton<\/a> to visit the state late this week or this weekend.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">A posting on Obama\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/my.barackobama.com\/page\/event\/detail\/communityservice\/4rkfk\" target=\"_blank\">Web site<\/a> confirms that he will be in the state capitol on Friday but provides no other details. The <st1:city st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:city> campaign has promised that the senator will visit before next week\u2019s Feb. 5 Democratic caucus, but there\u2019s no official word on the date of a <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> visit. Neither campaign has responded to requests for more information about the candidates\u2019 visits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R53zzV9XKgI\/AAAAAAAAEpM\/MxePlrcJ-IQ\/s1600-h\/Clinton,+Hillary.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R53zzV9XKgI\/AAAAAAAAEpM\/MxePlrcJ-IQ\/s200\/Clinton,+Hillary.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5160548811429849602\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Obama will visit the state on the heels of a huge win in <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/afp\/20080128\/pl_afp\/usvote2008_11\" target=\"_blank\">South Carolina<\/a> on Saturday. He and Clinton are generally considered to be neck-and-neck going into the Feb. 5 contests in more than 20 states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Meanwhile, both campaigns remain highly active in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>. Clinton announced the endorsement on Friday of state Auditor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.saonm.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hector Balderas<\/a> \u2013 the youngest Hispanic statewide elected official in the nation \u2013 and on Saturday of former Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bruce_King\" target=\"_blank\">Bruce King<\/a> and his wife Alice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cHillary Clinton has a clear vision to jumpstart our economy and get our country back on track,\u201d Balderas said in a news release. \u201cWith over 35 years of experience, Hillary will create new jobs, address our housing crisis and put money back into the pockets of the American people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">King, in a conference call with <st1:state st=\"on\">New  Mexico<\/st1:state> reporters, said he and his wife have known <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> since the 1970s.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cShe\u2019s the type of person that is really a doer and she really wants to lift everyone up,\u201d King said. \u201cSo it\u2019s very important that everyone in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> go out and support Hillary on Feb. 5.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> campaign plans a news conference later this week to announce the endorsements of state lawmakers and other elected officials. The Obama campaign, according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.santafenewmexican.com\/SantaFeNorthernNM\/Obama_likely_to_roll_through_New_Mexico_ahead_of_Super_Tuesday\" target=\"_blank\">Santa Fe New Mexican<\/a>, plans two news conferences on Tuesday \u2013 one in Santa Fe and one in Las Cruces \u2013 to announce new endorsements, including that of Las Cruces Mayor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/council\/mayor.shtm\" target=\"_blank\">Ken Miyagishima<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In addition, thousands of volunteers spread out across <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> this weekend, <a href=\"http:\/\/my.barackobama.com\/page\/community\/post\/zachedwards\/CGVjJ\" target=\"_blank\">going door-to-door<\/a> in 17 cities to try to convince New Mexicans to support Obama.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:130%;\">Feuding reaches <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New   Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The campaigns are already continuing some of the feuding that colored this weekend\u2019s <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">South Carolina<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> contest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Obama\u2019s campaign announced Friday the formation of a \u201cTruth Squad\u201d it said would counter negative and false attacks from the <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> campaign. Some leading Obama supporters in <st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state> joined reporters on a conference call on Friday to rebut attacks the <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> campaign has made in other states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe are here today because we are tired of hearing negative attacks against Sen. Obama from the <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> campaign,\u201d former state Rep. Patsy Trujillo said. \u201cWe are here today to stop those lies from infiltrating the debate here in <st1:state st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> and we are here to set the record straight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">She and others talked briefly about Social Security, the economy, the <st1:country-region st=\"on\">Iraq<\/st1:country-region> war and other issues, in some instances sharing Obama\u2019s plans and in others sharing what the <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> campaign has said about Obama\u2019s plans and calling that information false.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIt\u2019s time for the <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> campaign to tell the truth,\u201d state Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=215&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Al Park<\/a> said. \u201cIf you won\u2019t tell the truth during the campaign, how can we be sure that you\u2019ll tell the truth in the White House?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> campaign responded by releasing a statement from Matt Farrauto, former executive director of the state Democratic Party, to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqtrib.com\/news\/2008\/jan\/26\/signs-clinton-obama-feud-popping-new-mexico\/\" target=\"_blank\">Albuquerque Tribune<\/a> starting that Obama \u201chas trouble taking responsibility for and explaining his record.\u201d He said the <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> campaign would \u201crespond quickly and effectively\u201d to keep the campaign focused on the issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Even before the Obama campaign\u2019s conference call with reporters, the <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> campaign invited the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/news\/state\/280258nm01-26-08.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Albuquerque Journal<\/a> to listen in on a national conference call about \u201cObama campaign attacks\u201d \u2013 a conference call the newspaper reported included more attacking of Obama than it did explanations of his alleged attacks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I\u2019ll share more details about the visits by both candidates as soon as I have them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Update, 8:45 a.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Obama spokesman Trevor Fitzgibbon said Sunland Park Mayor Jesus \u201cRuben\u201d Segura will also endorse Obama at Tuesday\u2019s news conference in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>. He said other endorsements were being vetted by the national campaign and can\u2019t yet be released.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">But he said the campaign is finding a lot of support among Hispanics in <st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state>, and he expects Miyagishima, <st1:place st=\"on\">Segura<\/st1:place> and others to focus on Obama\u2019s electability during Tuesday speeches.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Fitzgibbon also said that U.S. Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/kennedy.senate.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ted Kennedy<\/a>, D-Mass., will visit <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:state st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:state><\/st1:place> later this week to campaign for Obama. Kennedy endorsed Obama on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Fitzgibbon said he had no details about Obama\u2019s Friday visit, and couldn\u2019t even confirm that Obama will visit on that day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Update, 10:45 a.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">State Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=259&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Dede Feldman<\/a>, D-Albuquerque, endorsed Obama this weekend. You can read about it on her blog by clicking <a href=\"http:\/\/senatorfeldman.typepad.com\/senator_dede_feldmans_blo\/2008\/01\/obama-wins-my-s.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Update, 1:25 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Also endorsing Obama from <st1:placename st=\"on\">Do\u00f1a<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">Ana<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placename> will be state Reps. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=323&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Nate Cote<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=321&amp;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Jeff Steinborn<\/a>, Las Cruces City Councilor <a href=\"http:\/\/las-cruces.org\/council\/district1.shtm\" target=\"_blank\">Miguel Silva<\/a>, Do\u00f1a Ana County Commissioner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.donaanacounty.org\/commissioners\/district2\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dolores Salda\u00f1a-Caviness<\/a> and Do\u00f1a Ana County Democratic Party Vice Chair Art Terrazas, according to a news release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Their endorsements will be formally announced at a news conference at Obama\u2019s campaign headquarters in <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Las Cruces<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>, located at <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?f=q&amp;hl=en&amp;geocode=&amp;q=212+west+hadley,+las+cruces&amp;sll=37.0625,-95.677068&amp;sspn=39.320439,61.347656&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;ll=32.313015,-106.781487&amp;spn=0.010264,0.014977&amp;z=16&amp;iwloc=addr&amp;om=0\" target=\"_blank\">212 West Hadley<\/a>, at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Barack Obama will visit New Mexico on Friday, with the time and location for a stop in Santa Fe yet to be announced, and sources tell me to expect Hillary Clinton to visit the state late this week or this weekend.
