Currently, a person has to be 18 to be a poll worker.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThis is a win-win situation for everyone,\u201d Steinborn said in a news release. \u201cIt helps our electoral system recruit more citizens to meet our perpetual shortages during elections while giving our young adults an opportunity to participate in our democracy. It also promotes their civic awareness and involvement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R5eGqV9XKLI\/AAAAAAAAEmk\/ovUMqo-stkQ\/s1600-h\/Steinborn,+Jeff.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R5eGqV9XKLI\/AAAAAAAAEmk\/ovUMqo-stkQ\/s200\/Steinborn,+Jeff.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5158739960183335090\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>The bill would allow the young people to serve as backup poll workers if they receive parent and school approval. They would then be able to staff polls when worker shortages arise \u2013 a problem that is common in <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placename st=\"on\">Do\u00f1a<\/st1:placename> <st1:placename st=\"on\">Ana<\/st1:placename>  <st1:placename st=\"on\">County<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place>. They would be trained and paid but, under the proposal, would not be allowed to serve as presiding judges at polling places.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI believe in our young people and I know that there are many students out there with the maturity to take on this assignment and do a great job,\u201d Steinborn said. \u201cI look forward to giving them that opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A bill sponsored by Rep.
