{"id":2736,"date":"2008-01-14T18:03:00","date_gmt":"2008-01-15T00:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/01\/abq-businessman-to-run-for-state-senate-district-11\/"},"modified":"2008-01-14T18:03:00","modified_gmt":"2008-01-15T00:03:00","slug":"abq-businessman-to-run-for-state-senate-district-11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/01\/abq-businessman-to-run-for-state-senate-district-11\/","title":{"rendered":"ABQ businessman to run for state Senate District 11"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R4v4scTQ8pI\/AAAAAAAAEfU\/Klc9RC0PtUQ\/s1600-h\/Padilla,+Michael.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R4v4scTQ8pI\/AAAAAAAAEfU\/Klc9RC0PtUQ\/s200\/Padilla,+Michael.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5155487640850592402\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> businessman <a href=\"http:\/\/www.votepadilla.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Padilla<\/a> has announced that he will challenge state Sen. <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/legdetails.asp?Name=272&#038;Submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">Linda Lopez<\/a> in the Democratic primary in June.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cIt is more important than ever that state Senate <a href=\"http:\/\/legis.state.nm.us\/lcs\/DistrictMaps\/2002SenateDistricts\/Senate11.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">District 11<\/a> has a hard-working and experienced leader that gets things done,\u201d said Padilla, 35 and a lifelong Democrat. \u201cOur district needs a leader willing to fully commit the time, energy and courage to make sure we are well represented in the state Legislature.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Padilla pledged to campaign full-time to reach every voter, and said in the news release announcing his candidacy that he will \u201cprovide solid leadership\u201d as a lawmaker to \u201cstay ahead of public safety trends, economic changes, educational requirements, environmental impacts and desperately needed infrastructure enhancements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Padilla\u2019s family settled in the district, located on <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s west side, almost 100 years ago, he said. He is chairman and CEO of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.altivus.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Altivus CRM Solutions LLC<\/a>, a call-center consulting firm that builds, improves and expands call centers across the <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:country-region st=\"on\">United States<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place>. That experience, Padilla said, will help him work with business and industry to \u201cbring home high-paying jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Padilla also helped start <st1:city st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:city>\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cabq.gov\/crm\/\" target=\"_blank\">311 Citizen Contact Center<\/a> in 2004, and he managed the center until 2007. The 311 center provides non-emergency services for <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Albuquerque<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/governor.state.nm.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Richardson<\/a> appointed Padilla to the New Mexico State Workforce Development Board of Directors in 2004. He has served on the boards of a number of other state associations and non-profit organizations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Padilla attended the <st1:placetype st=\"on\">University<\/st1:placetype> of <st1:placename st=\"on\">New Mexico<\/st1:placename> and <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:placetype st=\"on\">University<\/st1:placetype> of <st1:placename st=\"on\">Phoenix<\/st1:placename><\/st1:place>, and earned two labor relations certifications.  He was a grassroots organizer for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fcc.gov\/telecom.html\" target=\"_blank\">Telecommunications Act of 1996<\/a>, which created more competition, lower prices and more reliable telecommunications services for all Americans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">As a state senator, he pledged to focus on safety and security, including brining funding to District 11 for law enforcement and emergency services; economic development; education, including greater support for teachers; water and air quality and other basic services, including modernizing utility infrastructure in the district; and other infrastructure, with a focus on improving streets and sidewalks and better designs to reduce traffic delays.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Albuquerque businessman Michael Padilla has announced that he will challenge state Sen.
