{"id":2726,"date":"2008-01-10T16:11:00","date_gmt":"2008-01-10T22:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/01\/unofficial-richardson-for-vp-movement-begins\/"},"modified":"2008-01-10T16:11:00","modified_gmt":"2008-01-10T22:11:00","slug":"unofficial-richardson-for-vp-movement-begins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nmpolitics.net\/index\/2008\/01\/unofficial-richardson-for-vp-movement-begins\/","title":{"rendered":"Unofficial Richardson-for-VP movement begins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R4aYJ8TQ8cI\/AAAAAAAAEdo\/YbRaiKmevXg\/s1600-h\/Richardsonforpresident.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_IabUCQmoheQ\/R4aYJ8TQ8cI\/AAAAAAAAEdo\/YbRaiKmevXg\/s200\/Richardsonforpresident.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5153974120145285570\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>One of the most active volunteers on Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.richardsonforpresident.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Richardson\u2019s<\/a> now-defunct presidential campaign is already trying to start a movement to make him the next vice president of the <st1:country-region st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">United   States<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blogger.com\/profile\/15668189008700822887\" target=\"_blank\">Ken Camp<\/a>, a Democratic activist in <st1:placename st=\"on\">Washington<\/st1:placename> <st1:placetype st=\"on\">State<\/st1:placetype>, has started a <a href=\"http:\/\/richardson4vp.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">blog<\/a> and an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ipetitions.com\/petition\/richardson4vp\/\" target=\"_blank\">online petition<\/a> to push the eventual Democratic presidential nominee to make <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> his or her running mate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Camp said the effort is not affiliated with <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s presidential campaign and the statements on the sites have not been authorized by the governor. He said he will take down the sites if asked by Richardson or senior staff members to do so.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cI have not been asked or paid by anyone to do this. This is an entirely grassroots effort,\u201d Camp said. \u201cAs one of the primary bloggers for <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> for the past two years, I\u2019m acting alone and have not consulted with anyone about my effort.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Richardson has said in the past that he\u2019s not interested in being vice president and would serve out his term as governor if he lost the presidential race, but he didn\u2019t close the door on vice president or another job in Washington during today\u2019s speech announcing his withdrawal from the presidential race.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe, the people, believe that New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson\u2019s experience serving as a Congressman, Secretary of Energy, U.N. Ambassador, Governor, and unofficial U.S. envoy to bad guys make him a great choice for Vice-President on the 2008 Democratic ticket and we call on the Democratic nominee for President to make Bill Richardson his or her Vice-President,\u201d the petition states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> campaign staffers didn\u2019t immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Camp said the reasons for his effort to make <st1:city st=\"on\"><st1:place st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> the vice president are simple.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cGovernor Richardson has unique foreign policy experience that none of the remaining Democrats has, and he\u2019s the governor of a Western state and would balance any potential ticket,\u201d Camp said. \u201cWith Bill Richardson on the ticket, any of the potential Democratic nominees would have a vice-presidential candidate who could help win the West and, thus, win the White House.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Camp said he also believes that many people who didn\u2019t support <st1:place st=\"on\"><st1:city st=\"on\">Richardson<\/st1:city><\/st1:place>\u2019s presidential bid \u201cthink he\u2019d be a fine vice president.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cMy hope is that the petition will reflect that support,\u201d Camp said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the most active volunteers on Gov.
