\"\"<\/a>Carter Bundy has left behind his home in Albuquerque<\/st1:city> for the past several weeks to spend time in Iowa<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> persuading members of his union to caucus tonight for Hillary Clinton<\/a>. <\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

On the day of the Iowa Caucus, Bundy, the political and legislative director for AFSCME<\/a> in New Mexico<\/st1:state><\/st1:place>, still believes what he wrote in a column<\/a> published on this site yesterday: that the race is wide open.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

He\u2019s only legally allowed to try to persuade AFSCME members to support Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>, and he said the union has found that she is \u201cthe pretty clear favorite of our members.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cBut we\u2019ve also found members who are supporting other candidates, including. Gov. Richardson<\/a>, and we\u2019re not here to badmouth any of the other candidates,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen I talk to any one of our members who\u2019s a Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> fan, I tell them he\u2019s done a lot for our union and he\u2019s an excellent choice.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Bundy is spending today in Iowa City contacting union members who are identified supporters of Clinton to let them know where they can caucus tonight and to offer rides. Tonight he and others will be giving members rides and, potentially, volunteering with the Clinton<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> campaign.<\/p>\n

Bundy said the \u201cdisproportionate influence of rural areas gives John Edwards<\/a> somewhat of an advantage in the delegate count,\u201d and the fact that college students haven\u2019t yet returned to Iowa<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> hurts Barack Obama<\/a>.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

The three frontrunners all have \u201cbig cores of support,\u201d he said, so Richardson must get the support of most undecideds and take some from Joe Biden<\/a> and Chris Dodd<\/a> to finish in the top three.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Bundy said he believes there is a chance many of the undecideds will pick Richardson<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>. He said the frontrunners are all well-known, and many who are undecided at this point probably aren\u2019t fans of any of them.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

\u201cIf they haven\u2019t closed a sale with you now, you\u2019re probably looking for something different, and Gov. Richardson offers something different,\u201d Bundy said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
